need a victory to get back into
the conference race.
Saturday afternoon, the Aggies
dropped their second straight
Southwest Conference game, 10-
3, to the Rice Owls at Houston.
THE MUSTANGS are 2-0yn
the SWC and 4-2 for the season.
The loss to Rice makes the Ag
gies 1-2 in the conference and
3-3 overall.

that stymied the Aggies in the
Rice game. After chasing Owl
starter Tom Brown, the Aggies
were stopped by reliefer Tommy
Speck.
Speck, a freshman Trom Hous
ton, came in for the Owls in the
fourth inning and picked up the
win. The Aggies threatened sev
eral times, but a combination of
double plays, base-running and a
picked-off baserunner sealed the
Aggies’ fate.
ROCKY THOMPSON started
for the Aggies and didn’t last
long. While the stocky right
hander was in the game, he did
sock a home run (the first this
year for the Aggies) which led
to Reed’s dismissal by Owl Coach
Doug Osburn.
After Thompson’s remedial, five
pitchers went to the mound for
Coach Tom Chandler but none
was effective.
The Aggies garnered seven hits
but the Owls pulled off several
double plays to cut down any
chance of Aggie rallies.
IT\WAS A CLOSE game until
the Owls’ half of the eighth in
ning. At that time, Rice sent 11
men to bat and when the dust
had cleared, seven runs had been
added to the Owl total.
Following today’s game, the
Aggies will next be in action at
Fort Worth on Saturday after
noon. The Horned Frogs are cur
rently tied with SMU for the top
spot in the SWC race.
