Coach Roy Rubin’s Blackbirds ran their unbeaten streak to 16, but Norfolk State dropped out of the all-winning group on a thump ing 129-103 loss to Delaware State for a 16-1 record. Long Island beat Rider 55-52 and Hofstra 72-65 last week. Ev ansville, runnerup a week ago, was toppled by third-ranked Ken tucky Wesleyan, 87-78, in over time and lost its No. 2 spot to the Kentuckians. The latest signings included! those of outfielder Tony Conigli- aro, 'second baseman Mike An drews and relief pitcher Sparky Lyle, all of whom played impor tant roles in the Sox’ dramatic drive to the pennant. Tony reportedly sought $60,000 but was understood to have set tled for slightly less. 'A tA "A WASHINGTON <dP> _ Cassius Clay has turned movie actor, says Havana Radio in a broadcast heard here. The announcement said he ap peared in premier performances of the motion pictures at four theaters in Havana. It added that the film, entitled “Cassius Clay,” presents an ex citing story of a man who “chose to fight outside the ring against Yankee racial discrimination and warmongering.” Coach Considers Libel Suit Action EAST LANSING, Mich. MP) — Michigan State football Coach Duffy Daugherty said Tuesday he is considering filing a libel suit against a student newspaper that said treatment of MSU ath letes may have violated Big Ten rules. Daugherty said he hadn’t de cided whether to file such a suit, but would leave the decision up to an attorney. The newspaper, the Michigan Daily, student organ of the Uni versity of Michigan in Ann Ar bor, was asked about Daugherty’s statement, and managing editor Steve Wildstrom said, “We have no comment other than that we will stand by our stories.” The stories involved were writ ten by Clurk Norton, the news paper’s sports editor, who cited certain acts he said had taken place involving Michigan and Michigan State athletes in pos sible violations of Big Ten rules. Meanwhile, John Dewey, assis tant Big Ten commissioner, con tinued questioning Michigan Daily staffers and athletes and coaches at Michigan. He could not be reached for comment. NCAA Invitation To Pan-American EDINBURG, Tex. <A>) — Pan American College accepted Wed nesday an invitation to play in the National Collegiate Athletic Association College Division Bas ketball Championship play-off. College officials said the Broncs, currently ranked tenth in the Associated Press small college division poll, are to be assigned to a four-team regional tourna ment at a site to be determined later by the NCAA. The Broncs have won 15 of their last 16 games and have a 19-4 record. It will mark the first time Pan American has entered competition in an NCAA tourna ment.
