Michael Petersen, Contempor ary Arts Committee chairman, said the exhibit, “Museum Im pressions,” reflects interpreta tions of a visit of children 6 to 16 to the Field Museum of Natu ral History. Petersen said teachers encour aged individuality through a wide choice of media, including pastels, paints, inks and paper strips, as well as seeds, string, drinking straws and felt cutouts. Many of the subjects are easily recognizable, while others defy in terpretation. Three green giraffes, thickly outlined in brown and spotted in orange, are definitely giraffes, but one shape called “Animal,” with white stripes and brown, blue, red and green dots, all on a star-studded background, might better be called just “Thing.” THE BATTALION Wednesday, November 8, 1967 College Station, Texas Page 3 Bottomless Dresses Pass Minis In Designer’s Show By JEAN SPRAIN WILSON AP Fashion Editor Though it has seemed for some time that miniskirts might mini mize themselves out of existence, it took the man who invented top less swimsuits to come up with bottomless dresses. Even so, with the skirtless suits which California designer Rudi Gernreich introduced to buy ers Tuesday as part of his Sia mese influence spring collection there was a modicum of modesty. Though wide-belted jackets stopped short of expectations, the painted manikins were primly covered with ballooning bloom ers, or Oriental diapers. Much less so were the bare foot, barelegged, bare-nearly all beachwear babes who opened Gernreich’s show with his Hard- mon knitwear collections. To anyone farther away than second row with less than 20-20 vision the parade of minifigured manikins seemed to be wearing bright islands of cloth magically clinging at strategic places. The magic was vinyl which Gernreich used liberally as shoulder straps, side panels portholes and pic ture windows on beach shifts as well as bikini suits that already showed enough. Freshmen officers in the Texas A&M Agricultural Society for the school year have been named. Grouped around Assistant Dean of Agriculture Dr. R. C. Objective of the society is to inform members of the many occupations in agriculture, promote better relationships among freshmen students, and to give students an oppor tunity to acquaint themselves with the College of Agricul ture teaching staff. Many of these advisory boards, Bailey points out, control alloca tion of large research and devel opment grants and are often in strumental in determining loca tion of federal facilities. Texas, Bailey adds, is one of the few states prohibiting service on these boards and is at a dis tinct disadvantage in obtaining federal funds and facilities be cause of its lack of representation. Bailey, active in numerous Chamber of Commerce and other civic projects, is local manager for Southwestern States Tele phone Company. WACO. lA*)—Three more Baylor University clubs were found guil ty of physical hazing in trials before a student court Tuesday night. Tryon Coterie, men’s social club, was told they would not be allowed to take pledges during the spring of 1968. The club ear lier pleaded not guilty to the charges. Delta Sigma Pi, national busi ness fraternity, and Lamda Sig ma Chi, men’s social club, both were given suspended sentences after pleas of guilty. The Baylor Chamber of Com merce, men’s service club, was found guilty Monday night on charges of physical hazing in the Oct. 10 initiation that claimed the life of John Everett Clifton, 19, of Crosby. The Clifton death set off a series of student investigations leading to the student court trials this week. Alpha Kappa Psi, national busi ness fraternity, will be investi gated for physical hazing by their national organization, the group’s regional director, Dr. Robert W. Bell of Fayetteville, Ark., said Tuesday. The Baylor chapter was found guilty Monday night by a student court. Bell would not comment on the possibility of the club losing its national charter. Vo-Ag Teachers Begin Instruction Eighteen prospective vocational agriculture teachers have begun student teaching in schools from Cuero to Breckenridge. “The purpose of student teach ing is to provide guided experi ences for the prospective teacher under an experienced teacher. Student teaching serves as an internship in the profession of education,” Dr. O. M. Holt of Texas A&M’s Department of Agricultural Education said. Selection of the cooperating teachers is a demanding process, Dr. Holt said. The best programs in a good educational environ ment, with help from the high school administration, is sought. Many factors are considered in the selection. Do you buy a shirt or a label? If you want a good shirt, look for a good label. One that means the shirt is styled to last.
