It may attract U. S. Office of Education attention, the de partment head added. Institute participants include superintendents, principals, fed eral program coordinators, guid ance counselors and college pro fessors from all over Texas. Class sessions include discus sions of Title I itself, legislation affecting the federal education act, public relations approaches and message construction. Instruction by Dr. Rose, public relations director of the New Work State Teachers Association, and Mrs. Roby, department PR coordinator, is amplified by ad dresses by Mrs. Elizabeth D. Koontz, newly elected president of the National Education Associa tion, and TEA officials. “The format of each partici pant’s plan is entirely up to the individual,” Mrs. Roby explained. “But it must be a practical ap proach usablein his own school district. The planned method must be what he thinks should be done, and what the district can do.” Roby and Rose stress that ideas must fit into the school district’s regular public relations program. The Title I PR programs should not only fit into existing chan nels, put open up possible avenues of telling the whole school story,” Dr. Rose commented. He said federal support to edu cation administered locally is a fact of life. Fitting disadvan taged children into the broad edu cational programs is an absolute must. “We have our chance now with the four to six-year-olds,” Rose declared. “We must do whatever is necessary to equip these people of the next generation.” MODERN LANGUAGE MAJOR Sarah Giensenschlag is a modern language major at A&M this summer from College Station.
