The event, held at the Bryan

According to Club President
Delbert Stanley, the time trials
were a “great success” and the
turnout of participants was “a
lot better than we anticipated.”
Ray said the event was “one of
the best ever held in the state”
and added “it was really tre
mendous.”

AUSTIN — The state director
of Texas draft boards recently ad
vised nearly 100,000 draft-age
college and university undergrad
uates classified as II-S to take ac
tion before the end of the spring
semester on an “important matter
for their possible benefit.”
Colonel Morris S. Schwartz,
state Selective Service director,
urged these students to request
their college or university regis
trars to send their class standings
for the 1966-67 school year to
their local boards as soon as these
standings are available after the
spring semester ends.
“If these class standings are
not sent in for the 1966-67 school
year, it is likely that a lot of these
students will get reclassified into
Class I-A next fall just because
their draft boards don’t have this
information,” the state draft
director said.
“Some colleges and universities
will report these class standings
without requests from the stu
dents,” he continued, “but others
will do it only when the student
asks that it be done.”
Because class standings were
not sent in on many college stu
dents in Class II-S during the
summer of 1966 for the 1965-66
school year, approximately a third
of them in Texas was reclassified
into Class I-A.
Class standings are not report
ed on graduate students and stu
dents of professions such as medi
cine, dentistry, and law.
