V EYES THE GOAL Randy Matson, world shot put champion, eyes the thin yellow line that is separated from him by 70 feet of Kyle Field soil dur ing Saturday’s tri-meet with Baylor and Texas Tech. LIFTOFF! Randy releases the 16- pound shot as he uncoils during his record-breaking throw. He broke his exist ing record by almost a foot on his first official attempt of the day. UP AND AWAY! The shot is blasted out of Matson’s hand and is shown 1 over the shot put area as he follows through in champioif form. PRESENTED PROCLAMATION Brazos County Judge W. C. Davis presents Matson with a proclamation stating that Saturday, April 22, had been set aside as “Randy Matson Day”. RANDY’S REMARKS Randy shows his wife, Margaret, the new distance record, left, and then steps up to the speaker’s platform to give the crowd a few words to express his feelings about his new record. GIVEN STUDENT BODY PLAQUE Student Senate President Barney Fudge presents Matson, below, with a plaque rep resenting the appreciation the A&M stu dent body has for the many accomplish ments and honors he has brought to the university.
