Dr. Paul Hensarling heads the Education and Psychology De partment. Smith Is Granted AEG Fellowship Continuation Here Harry L. Smith of Decatur, 111., has been named for U. S. Atomic Energy Commission fellowship continuation of graduate study in health physics at Texas A&M. The special AEG fellowship program in health physics will provide Smith a $3,600 stipend for the 1967-68 school year. The program is administered for the AEG by J)ak Ridge As sociated Universities. Health physics is a field of scientific research dealing with techniques of identification, eval uation and protection from radia tion effects. The field is essen tial to numerous industrial and governmental research and de velopment programs using radio active materials. One of the 66 fellowship recipi ents from 129 applicants, Smith is in his second year of course work toward a Ph.D. in nuclear engineering. The basic second year stipend is $2,600, plus $500 per dependent. A graduate of Decatur (111.) High School, the A&M graduate student earned bachelor and mas ters degrees at Michigan State. He is a member of Tau Beta Pi, national engineering society; Chi Epsilon, civil engineering society; Phi Kappa Phi, senior honor so ciety, and the Elks Club. Top awards by the Student En gineer’s Council at Texas A&M were presented to Leonard Lam- berson and J. G. McGuire at an awards banquet Monday night. Lamberson, assistant professor of industrial engineering, won a plaque as the outstanding faculty member of the year in the College of Engineering. McGuire, assist ant dean of the College of Engi neering, was cited for distin guished achievements in individ ual student relationships. Danny Clifton, president of the Student Engineers’ Council, said Lamberson was selected for good teaching and for going out of his way to help students. A member of the faculty since 1965, Lam berson is working toward the Ph.D. in industrial engineering. McGuire, assistant dean since 1954, has been on the A&M fac ulty since 1933. A registered professional engineer, he is chair man of Region Eight of thq Engi neers’ Council for Professional Development Guidance Commit tee, state coordinator and secre tary for the Junior Engineering Technical Society and vice chair man for studies of the Gulf South west Section of the American So ciety for Engineering Education. Awards also were presented to students who wrote top stories for the “Engineer,” official magazine of the College of Engineering. John M. Presley won first for the best technical paper and second went to David Woodard. Robert J. Billington placed first in non-technical paper competi tion. Richard L. Peace was sec ond. The student chapter of the American Institute of Industrial Engineers was cited for having the best overall open house dur ing recent High School Career Day activities at Aggieland. Mrs. Joanne Berry, secretary in the College of Engineering, was named an honorary member of the Student Engineers’ Council for her assistance to Dean Mc Guire and the council. Speaker for the banquet was Dr. John P. Abbott, distinguished professor of English at A&M. Engineering Dean Fred J. Ben son presented certificates to Stu dent Engineers’ Council repre sentatives. Educational Film Series Initiated A series of educational films will be initiated by the Educa tion and Psychology Department Thursday, announced Dr. Paul Hensarling, department head. Movies covering a variety of subjects and fields will be screened each Thursday at 3 p.m. in Room 402 of the Academic Building. A “Wisdom Series” interview of James B. Conant, former Har vard University president, is scheduled for the first presenta tion, noted George Franklin of the department’s educational media lab. The public is invited, Hensar ling indicated, and a special invi tation has been extended to other A&M teacher education depart ments. There will be no charge for admittance. Other films will feature Pearl Buck, Frank Lloyd Wright, Elea nor Roosevelt and Carl Sandburg. There also will be films on per ception, audio visual materials in teaching, class motivation and psychology.
