Clay Faces First Defeat As Army Induction Nean ti ipp It aij avi HOUSTON <7P) _ Heavyweight champion Cassius Clay suffered a one-two punch setback Wednes day in his fight to avoid being drafted into the U. S. Army. First, the Houston draft board ordered him to report for induc tion April 28. Shortly thereafter, a U. S. Dis trict Court at Louisville, Ky. re fused to delay his induction on grounds of racial discrimination. Clay could not be reached for comment but his Houston attor ney indicated the champion would continue his efforts to avoid induction on the grounds he is a Muslim minister. A Houston draft board spokes man said Clay’s induction notice was sent out in the morning mail Wednesday shortly after his draft board status change re quest from Louisville was re ceived by the local board. The Louisville board had set April 11 as the induction date but Clay received the delay by having his case referred to Houston which he now claims as his home. “There was an April 28 call already set up before we ceived approval of his to be in our jurisdiction,' Houston Draft Board spoki said. “There are several othenl eluded in the call. He no special privileges nor ^ ou ties. At Louisville Judge Jai® o t Gordon declined to creali three-man panel to hear contention that discrimii was involved because no ? est< es were on the board therei all g he was called up.
