500 Attending Sewage School At A&M
More than 500 participants reg
istered this week for the opening
day of the 49th Texas Water and
Sewage Works Association Short
School at Texas A&M.
W. J. Weems of Abilene, presi
dent of the 4,500-member associa
tion, predicted a record 900 reg
istrants before the school ends
Friday.
The old attendance mark of 846
was set last year.
A&M Engineering Dean Fred
J. Benson, speaking in the first
general session, said the organiz
ation faces one of the state’s big
gest problems in combating water
pollution. Benson noted the short
school has been meeting more
than 40 years at Aggieland.
Dr. M. T. Garrett Jr. of Hous
ton, president of the Texas Water
Pollution Control Association,
also spoke briefly.

winner. First place went to Ke
mah for the most attractive and
efficient water plant in the 8,000
and below population bracket.
