THE BATTALION Friday, September 23, 1966 College Station, Texas Pan Am Awards Grants The Pan American Petroleum Foundation presented a doctoral fellowship, three undergraduate I scholarships and grants here I Wednesday. W. C. Penberthy, Bryan, Texas, received the faculty doctoral fel lowship. He will receive more than $3,800 in stipends, tuition and fees. Harrell L. Bilhartz Jr. of Dal las, Craig A. Awards were made by S. H. Stocker of Pan American’s pro duction division and C. A. Wilner, geophysics representative, from Houston. Deans Fred Benson of engineering and Horace R. Byers of geosciences attended the awards luncheon in the Memorial Student Center. A&M is one of numerous schools supported by the Pan American Petroleum Corporation through its Foundation. Undergraduate scholarships once awarded can be kept by the scholar for four academic years through maintenance of a grade average of B or better. Ford Dealer Campus Briefs Degree Available In Biochemistry The Department if Biochemis try and Biophysics has announced that it is offering a, bachelor of science degree in biochemistry. Dr. B. J. Camp, professor in the department, said the program is not listed in the university’s new catalog. He said the program is de signed to prepare students for graduate studies in the biologi cal sciences. Students should have strong interest in biology, chemistry and mathematics. “Opportunities are in such fields as pharmaceuticals, food in dustry, agricultural chemicals and in government and private research laboratories,’’ the pro fessor said. Anyone interested in the pro gram should contact Camp in Room 219 in the Keep Building. Cushing Paintings Available To Students Cushing Library’s prints of famous paintings will be loaned to students Sept. 28-29. The 80 color prints cover a broad range of artistic styles, are framed and ready to hang. Prints will be charged to in dividual students until Jan. 20, 1967. Because of the limited number available, the art will be issued on a first come basis to A&M students only, with a limit of one per student. Borrowers will' be held responsible for re placement value in case of loss or damage. The collection of prints, which range in value from $25 to $40, includes works of Rembrandt, Goya, Dali, Renoir, Matisse, and Picasso. Prints will be displayed on checkout days. Economics Head Authors Article Dr. M. L. Greenhut, head of the Department of Economics, is author of an article in the fall issue of “Land Economics.” “On the Matter of Realism in Economic Theory and the Regu lation of the Public Utility” pro poses a new basis for regulating the public utility which entails an econometric study of risk and uncertainty of American busi ness toward identifying organi zations according to similar busi ness hazards. Service Fraternity Schedules Party Alpha Phi Omega, the Nation al Service Fraternity, has sched uled a party at 7:30 p.m. Friday to introduce interested persons to the service program and allow applications for pledgeship. The deadline for pledging is Sept. 29. The meeting will be held in the Memorial Student Center Social Room. The group had also made plans for the sale of personalized sta tionery next week to finance on- campus projects. ASME Slates Officer Election The American Society of Me chanical Engineers will elect of ficers and appoint committees at its first meeting at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Interested students, especially freshmen engineers, are urged to attend the meeting in room 3B of the Memorial Student Center.
