Winners included Travis R. Williams of San Antonio in me chanical engineering, and Benny Ray Smith of Dallas and John Mark Moore of Center in elec trical engineering. Plaques were presented by En gineering Dean Fred J. Benson. The $1,000 General Dynamics Excellence in Teaching Award went to Professor Archie R. Bur gess of the Department of In dustrial Education. Burgess, a former head of the department, earned his MS at Washington University and is a registered professional engineer. Williams has been a distin guished student six semesters. He is president of the A&M Phi Tau Sigma Chapter of the na tional mechanical engineering fraternity, and a member of Phi Kappa Phi, Tau Beta Pi, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the Society of Auto motive Engineers and the Texas Society of Professional Engi neers. Smith is editor of the “Engi neer,” official publication of the College of Engineering. He is a member of Phi Kappa Phi, Tau Beta Pi, Eta Kappa Nu, and the Polaris Council. The cadet major and company commander in the Corps is a member of the Ross Volunteers, honor drill unit. He was named outstanding ROTC senior in elec trical engineering. Moore is president of the En gineers Council, a member of the Civilian Student Honor Council, and on the advisory committee for the Texas Society of Profes sional Engineers. He is a mem ber of the Phi Kappa Phi, Tau Beta Pi, Phi Eta Sigma and Eta Kappa Nu. ROTC students who are candidates for the Bachelor’s Degree will wear the Class “A” cadet uniform in lieu of academic regalia. Senior boots are optional with the uniform. Rental of caps and gowns may be arranged with the Exchange Store. Orders may be placed between 8:00 a. m. Monday, May 9 and 5 :00 p. m. Friday, May 20. The rental is as follows: Doctor’s cap and gown, $5.26 ; Master’s cap and gown, $4.76 : Bachelor’s cap and gown, $4.25. Hood rental is the same as that for cap and gown. Range Club Sponsors Contest Some of the top Texas plant teams will compete in the State wide Identification Contest here Saturday. The contest is sponsored by the Range and Forestry Club for the top 4-H and FFA teams in the state, Chairman Billy Hood said. Purpose of the contest is to give the teams practice for later contests and to interest members in range management at Texas A&M, Hood said. FFA Holds Annual Banquet The Texas A&M Collegiate Future Farmers of America Chapter will hold its annual Stu dent-Professor Banquet tonight in the Ramada Inn Ballroom. Dennis Chapman, chapter presi dent, said the 7 p.m. program features State FFA President Kenneth Graeber of Brenham as the main speaker. Outstanding students and professors also will be selected by chapter members. The banquet climaxes the chap ter’s school year activities, Chap man said. The Department of Marketing Society sponsored day-long clinic meets at 9 a.m. in Rooms 2A and 2B of the Memorial Student Center, announced Herbert G. Thompson, department head. Atomic Energy Coop Program Set For Fall Texas A&M has joined the Atomic Energy Commission and Oak Ridge Associated Univer sities in a program to stimulate high school students toward choosing careers in atomic ener gy. President Earl Rudder signed an agreement Thursday with ORAU for the program to begin in September and continue through May, 1967. The plan calls for a mobile atomic energy exhibit, “This Atomic World,” to be demonstrat ed at 150 Texas high schools. Rudder said the exhibit will call attention to A&M’s capa bilities in science, especially in atomic and nuclear areas. C. M. Loyd, coordinator of A&M’s National Science Founda tion Programs Office, will ar range the exhibit schedule. He said an experienced science teach er will be employed as fulltime exhibit manager. Training will be provided at Oak Ridge. The exhibit manager will give lecture-demonstrations in assem bly programs, Loyd pointed out. He also will speak to individual classes. Loyd noted the program is an extension of the Atomic Energy Commission’s domestic exhibits program. The assembly presentation in volves animated exhibits and sci entific equipment to show funda mentals and applications of parti cle accelerators, fissions, reactors, fusion, radiation and radio iso topes. Lectures include atomic structure, nucleus and radioactiv ity, radiation biology, fission and fusion.
