Main Bryan In Cold Blood by Truman Capote Letters of Robert Frost to Louis Untermeyer The Churchill Years - 6 Volumes The Quiet Years by Stuart Udall Masters of Deceit by J. Edgar Hoover The Strategy of Victory 1914 - 1918 by Field Marshall Sie William Robertson Members of the fledgling Air Service Squadron at Texas A&M 46 years ago wouldn’t recognize the Air Force ROTC program to day. Everything has changed— except the cadets’ love for flying. A&M was one of the first six colleges to organize Air Corps training units. Records of the 1920 session when men taught to fly “by the seat of their pants” are sketchy. This much is certain: the Aggies’ gusto for flying more than com pensated for the crudeness of their open-cockpit, fabric and wood airships. AFROTC at A&M has changed a great deal since the general was a cadet. The 1,000 air cadets study management, communica tion, world and military history and decision-making in lieu of airframe assembly and hand bombing techniques. Many of the cadets receive Air Force as sistance to meet college expenses. THE BATTALION Wednesday, February 9, 1966 College Station, Texas Page 3 Campus Briefs MAJOR STUDIES COMPUTERS Maj. Ford Dealer A major in the Argentine Ar my is in the midst of an ac celerated year-long study of com puter management at the Data Processing Center. Carlos Lopez is on special as signment to learn organization and operation of a data proces sing center, plus the language of computers. “I’m especially interested in the magnetic tape used in com puters at A&M,” Lopez comment ed. “It is very fast and eco nomical.” DPC Director Robert L. Smith Jr. speaks highly of Lopez. “We are very proud and pleased with the progress he is making,” he remarked. “It is easy to see why his army is willing to invest the time and funds necessary for his training. We are certain he will go away a good Aggie and carry the name proudly. “The Argentine Army will have to obtain larger equipment to do the job it desires,” Smith added. “They will probably get an IBM 360 equipped with magnetic tape, discs and other more modern features. It appears the army will skip three or four genera tions of computers, spanning the years in one leap rather than the slow, evolutionary process.” Lopez noted the Argentine Ar my began using computers in 1961 to provide solutions for geo- dedic problems.
