Jones announced his resigna tion Monday “for the good of the university.” ★ ★ ★ LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — A Little Rock sports writer says Texas Tech Coach J. T. King may be in line to succed Comer Jones as head football coach at Oklahoma. Orville Henry, sports editor of the Arkansas Gazette here, wrote in his Wednesday column: “According to one reliable source, he’s King the man who could prove most interesting to Oklahoma, once the prelims at Norman are over.” Henry wrote that King has “spent his life recruiting, and very well in Texas, particularly in areas where Oklahoma used to pick off bluechippers.” Henry also said Arkansas as sistant Jim MacKenzie may be a candidate for the Oklahoma job, but he said a report linking Doug Dickey to the Oklahoma job “sounds like a hoax. You couldn’t tear him away from Tennessee just now.” Thinclads Prepare For New Orleans A&M track and field competi tion will swing into action De cember 29 in the Sugar Bowl track meet in New Orleans. This was the second time this year that the Sips have gone down to the Aggie water polo team. Sophomore Tom Holden led the Aggies to their 14th straight vic tory with eight goals. Bill Harri- man, Jim Hooten, and Charlie Calhoun rounded out Aggie scor ing. Langendom was the high scorer for Texas with six goals. The Ags jumped off to a 5-1 lead in the first quarter, and with the fine defensive playing of Keating and Desilets, the Sips were never able to catch up. The Aggie second team dropped a squeaker to the Sips in Austin with a 6-5 decision. This was the last water polo game for the Aggies until after swimming season. In the spring the Aggies are looking forward to the Nationals, and a repeat of last years win of the Junior Na tional A.A.U. title. Ag Rifle Team Captures First At Invitational A&M University Rifle Team No. 1 captured first place in the Central Texas Invitational Match during the weekend in Austin. Sgt. Harvey H. Dayton, coach, said the victory was a fine per formance against some of the best teams in the country. A&M’s top team fired 3,224 out of a possible 3,600. The Uni versity of Houston was second with 3,217. LSU placed third with 3,207. Twenty universities and colleges competed. Christopher M. West paced the Aggie team with 827 out of 900 points possible. Carl E. Long posted 806, Jack G. Merrell Jr. and John Vogel were the other team members. Capt. A. G. Trass was officer in charge. Dude Inks Pacts With 2 Pro Teams Aggie grid star Ken “Dude” McLean has reportedly signed pro grid contracts with both the Green Bay Packers of the Na tional Football League and the Buffalo Bills of the American Football League for somewhere around $30,000 each. The record-breaking split end is said to have at first turned down a Green Bay offer, signed with Buffalo, then later auto graphed for the Packers. The Packers supposedly had knowl edge of the previous signing when they made the second offer. While a court battle may en sue for rights to McLean, it is figured in some circles that Green Bay’s concern with the Ag receiver may have something to do with their crash program to sign Tech’s Donny Anderson. The two gridders were pals in high school on the Stinnet elev en, and the Packers are said to value the attractiveness of sign ing McLean in an effort to furth er entice Anderson to come aboard. McLean had no comment for newsmen.
