Arlington (Continued from Page 1) generally optimistic in that ASC will have its voice heard in this matter in the future.” The statement went on to say that the merger proposal was a move by the Board of Directors to preserve A&M. In related developments State Sen. W. T. Moore of Bryan said that he would not oppose independ ence for Arlington State, but he added that “I think if they do, they should pay back the $8 million in bonds given them by A&M for building purposes.” “Usually when there is a divorce, there should be some sort of prop erty settlement. Arlington should have to pay off those bonds. I don’t know if Arlington would be better off by this move, and it certainly is no advantage to have Arlington in the A&M System,” Sen. Moore continued. Arlington State President Dr. J. R. Wolf told student and faculty leaders Tuesday that a merger would not cause the school to lose its identity. He added that he had “assurances of autonomy” for ASC. Faculty Exchange Changing Over To Postal Meter All outgoing U. S. mail from 35 departments of A&M is now being metered by the Faculty Post Office Exchange and when the entire Uni versity is placed on the system, it will save about $25,000 per year, said Robert Smith, manager of sales and receivals. Smith said that a Pitney-Bowes postage meter machine is taking the place of stamps and mailing machines in the department of the University. The process of changing from the stamp system to the postage meter system has been taking place since the early summer], Smith said, adding that the rest of the de partments will be placed on the system early next year. David A. Clark, assistant di rector of the Cyclotron Institute, in his previous position as internal auditor for the University, took the initiative in establishing the new Faculty Post Office procedures. The new system will save the University $25,000 per year partly by eliminating the rental on the many mailing or postage machines previously used, Clark said, adding that twelve such machines have already been removed. klAffcJ ig mg mite snce ;st. jffljeuuttz&terv& PRICES GOOD THURS., FRI., SAT.
