This makes a total of 250 A&M premedical predental students ac cepted by professional schools since 1955, Professor Howard L. Gravett said. He is chairman of the seven- member, interdepartmental com mittee. Eleven of the Aggies have been accepted as students at the Uni versity of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, six at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, Dallas, four at the Univer sity of Texas Dental Branch, Hous ton, and two at Baylor University College of Dentistry, Dallas. Five other professional schools each have accepted one A&M student. Oyster Killing Paraside Studied A three-year study of a para site which causes heavy losses of oysters from the Mexican coast to the Delaware area has been started by Dr. John G. Mackin, head of the A&M University bio logy department. The study is sponsored by a new $42,000 grant from the U. S. Public Health Service. Mackin is widely known for his studies of oysters and their di seases and holds other research grants. The new grant is for “Studies in the Development of Dermo- cystidium marinum,” a parasite first described by Mackin in 1950. The parasite has since been the subject of studies by others. AMONG THE PROFS A&M Meteorologist To Attend Weather Satellite Conference ii A.& Fref ishly il irmosa sident Dr. A. H. Thompson of the A&M University meteorology faculty has been invited to Washington next week for conferences on the newly- launched Nimbus-A weather satel lite and his studies based upon photographs from the earlier Tiros system. Thompson has presented various papers and lectures based on his studies of satellite weather ob servations. He awaited Monday his first copies of photos sent by the Nim- bus-A satellite whose features in clude a television system expected to cover the entire earth, a first for a weather satellite. The Nimbus-A was placed last week into a pole-to-pole orbit. Thompson expects to leave Mon day or Tuesday (Sept. 7 or 8) and will be at the U.S. Weather Bureau satellite office most of the week. ★ ★ ★ Dr. Kurt Irgolic and Prof. Ralph A. Zingaro of A&M University’s Department of Chemistry will speak to the Selenium-Tellurium symposium scheduled in Columbus, Ohio, Sept. 24 and 25. Irgolic, a post-doctorate research associate from Austria, is engaged in research in this area. Traxler who heads the department of asphalt technology in the Texas Transportation In stitute at A&M University is auth or of a chapter in a comprehen sive technical handbook entitled, “Bituminous Materials” which is now off the presses of Interscience Publishers. Traxler’s 68 page chapter is en titled “Rheology and Rheological Modifiers Other than Elastomers— Structure and Time.” The same book also contains a chapter by his son, Richard W.
