Public To Decide Party Candidates Saturday is the day the voting 1 jublic goes to the polls and decide whom they wish to nominate to represent their party in the Nov ember elections. The Republican primary ballot will include a presidential pre ference poll, the Democratic bal lot will not. There are several individuals from the Bryan-College Station area listed on both ballots. The Democratic ballot lists five Brazos County residents, the Republican ballot shows four. Seeking the nomination for Democratic candidate for United States Representatives, 6th con gressional district, are Olin E. (Tiger) Teague, the present con gressman, and Jack Zubik, College Station businessman. William T. (Bill) Moore is a Brazos County native running for the Democratic nomination for state senator, 11th senatorial dis trict. His opponent in the race is Joe Cannon of Limestone County. Both the Democratic and Re publican tickets list Brazos County men for state representative, 28th legislative district. On the Demo cratic ballot are David G. Haines and B. H. THE BATTALION Friday, May l, 1964 College Station, Texas Page 3 State Democratic Officials Investigating Late Filings AUSTIN (.dP) — State Demo cratic party officials began le gal research Thursday to deter mine whether the party should act on reports of late filings of or failure to file campaign ex pense accounts by candidates. Secretary of State Crawford Martin notified 33 candidates, including four in statewide races and two in congressional races, that he is not accepting for filing their campaign expense reports because they were not received by the deadline, midnight April 24. The Democrats’ state execu tive director, Pat O’Keefe, said he will review laws on the sub ject to determine the party’s role. Statewide candidates notified their reports were late are Re publican Milton Davis of Dallas, for U. S. senator; Democrats Rob ert Baker of Houston and Bob Looney of Houston, for congress man at-large, and Sears McGee, for Supreme Court. Congressional candidates receiv ing like notice are State Rep. Malcolm McGregor of El Paso and Charles Langfort of Mount Enterprise, Democrats. No reports had been received Thursday from U. S. Rep. Clark Fisher of San Angelo or Godfrey Sullivan of Waco, Democrats; and Dr. Harry Claypool of Kerrville or Charles Isenhower of Clifton, Republicans. Election laws provide persons failing to file the reports on time “shall forfeit their right to have their name placed upon the ballot at any subsequent . . . election.” Others notified Thursday by Martin of late filings are: Dist. Judge Jack Miller of San Saba, Dist. Judge M. C. Ledbetter of Morton, Rep. Renal Rosson of Snyder, Dist. Judge Truman Rob erts of Hamilton; Howard Ragland of Levelland, running for state representative; Dist. Atty. With election day rapidly approaching, I will be unable to see each of you personally before May 2nd. In order that you may know something concerning my personal background and informa tion about my qualifications for this office, please accept this letter as my request for your vote and influence in the Democratic Primaries. FIRST: I am 45 years of age, married, 6 children, son in A&M University, daughter in SHSTC and 4 in A&M Consolidated School. I was born and grew up, and attended school in this precinct and now reside in College Station, having moved from Wellborn 2 years ago. I am serving in my 6th year on Board of Trustees of A&M Consolidated schools. My church affiliation is Baptist. SECOND: I am a Veteran of the Naval Air Force serving at Pearl Harbor, Berlin Airlift and Korean Conflict. I believe that being in the service of our country has made me more conscious of the needs of upholding our way of life, particularly in growing communities such as ours. *1 assure you that I will work for the rights of the residents of Precinct 1 and Brazos County, just as conscientiously as I served our country in time of war. THIRD: I believe that the time has come to place more emphasis on the importance of the commissioners court in its role of administering the county Government. I am fully qualified to serve and will do so — fairly, efficiently and honestly. FOURTH: I intend to work toward realigning precinct boundries in order to reach a fair ratio as to road mileage and population Density. I do not advocate an increase in county taxes. Furthermore, it is my desire to service all of the citizens of the county fairly and impartially, to the best of my ability. With your help, I hope to be elected on Saturday, May 2nd. IT IS MY OPINION THAT THE COMMISSIONER SHOULD DEVOTE HIS FULL TIME TO CARRY OUT THE DUTIES OF THIS OFFICE.
