Cadet Track Star Injured Jim Sebastian, Aggie junior track letterman, had both of his legs broken Friday night in Lub bock in a freak auto accident. The 21-year-old half miler’s legs were broken between the knee and the ankle. Sebastian was in Lubbock with teammates Randy Matson and Earl Myers for an indoor track meet. Sebastian had let Matson off at a hotel and was with Myers when the accident happened. The two athletes encountered two cars stalled on the icy road and had stopped to give help with an other man who had stopped behind the Sebastian auto. An on-coming car rammed into the coach behind Sebastian’s moments later while the A&M student was getting tools from the trunk of his car. Rain Causes Delay In Spring Practice A&M spring football practice, scheduled to begin today, has fallen victim to wet grounds. Coach Hank Foldberg has moved the opening date back to Wednesday providing that the field has dried out. Southwest Conference regula tions give A&M 36 days to get in 20 days of workouts from the open ing date. The Aggies will climax spring drills with the annual Ma roon-White game March 21. The auto behind the Sebastian car rolled forward and pinned him just below the knees and the force of the impact broke both legs. Hogs Fall To Aggies, By JIM BUTLER Battalion Sports Editor “I can’t help but think that the students that went up to Fayette ville made the difference in that game.” This was Shelby Metcalf giving credit to the Aggies that made the bus trip to the Ozarks for A&M’s heart-stopping 60-57 win Saturday afternoon. “It would have been easy for the team to lay down there when Arkansas had them down seven points, but the Aggies and the team’s pride wouldn’t let them,” Metcalf added. But the team didn’t let down. Behind the long-distance bombing and free throw shooting of all- American hopeful Bennie Lenox, the Aggies made up the deficit and went on to take their third straight win, running their SWC record to 9-1 and retaining their slim one- game lead over Texas Tech. The game wasn’t anything either A&M Nets Win Here Saturday Luis Rojas of A&M lost a close match to his brother, Julio, in the feature singles match of the day, but the Aggies went on to defeat Saint Edwards, 6-1, for their sec ond victory in as many outings Saturday at the A&M courts. A&M had i 15 lost balls in the first half and hit on a paltry 28 per cent of their shots. The usually accurate Razor- backs could manage only 29.3 per cent. “But we had it when we needed it,” Metcalf summed up the game FROM THE Sideii ineA By MAYNARD ROGERS Salt Flat, Tex. Feb. 24, 1964 Dear Great-grandson, How are things in Aggieland? Are you young cadets still raising sand over in Gathright Hall? We used to give that place the dickens. I’ve been reading in the Daily Salt Flat Shaker about your fine basketball team this year and how you all have been beating the daylights out of every body in the confer ence you’re in. Only you better tell them fellers on that team not to make them games to dad-burned close. I finally got my crystal radio tuned in Saturday and got to listen to the Arkansas game. By the time it was over I was in nervous fits and your great-grandma was almost dead. Remember when you all was behind them Hogs with about nine minutes left to play and that Lenox fella threw the ball in the basket and the score was 45-44 for Arkansas. Well, I yelled “Gig ’em Aggies” and swallowered my chewin’ tobacca. Then that young Norman whipper-snapper put the Ag gies even with them and Ma jumped up to wildcat, bless’er, and she knocked over the rockin’ chair on top of the cat, and that got the dog riled up and he chased the cat and the bird cage got knocked over and it fell on top of the fish bowl. And since the canary can’t swim he drowned and it put the gold fish in sech a tither he died of fright. There weren’t so much excitement that I’ve seen since ’01 Main burned down when I was in school. If I can get the radio workin’ again Tuesday night I plan to listen to you good Aggies beat the hell out of them Red Raiders from Texas Tetch out there in the desert. I would like to come back to A&M some time since it’s been a while since I’ve been there. But I’m not sure our 1920 Packard tourin’ car can make that 500 and some mile trip. It sure would be fun to see the campus and tent city again. You tell that basketball team to beat the heck out of them. Your great-grandpa, ’00 and also the season. When thi| Cadets were in the frying pan mi:, way in the second half, they turnti the fire on the home team ar- changed the smell to burning Ho| fat. ^^3^3 We aim to please Nothing less than your best appearance satisfies our barbers.
