Civilians Sunday In Twelfth Man Football Game Giants 11 Tittle Ge NFL MVP Award BY JACK HAND Associated Press Sports Writer NEW YORK <A>>—Y. A. Tittle, the 37-year-old quarterback who is the sum and total of the New York Giants’ offense, has been named Most Valuable Player in the Na tional Football League by an As sociated Press 42-man panel from the 14 league cities. What Jimmy Brown is to the Cleveland Browns, Tittle is to the Giants, only more so. Y. A.’s worth was shown on the one occasion this year he couldn’t play, because of some painfully bruised ribs. The Giants were blanked by Pittsburgh 31-0. THE VOTING of the sports writers and sportcasters returned Tittle the winner by a substantial edge over Brown. They were the only two men to receive any votes in this category. The vote was 33 for Tittle to seven for Brown. Two members of the panel did not vote on the MVP. Tittle, erratic at times when the Giants’ pass protection has broken down, already has bettered two all- time NFL passing records in this, his 14th year of league competi tion. That does not include two years in the All-America Confer ence with the old Baltimore Colts. Y. A. HAS thrown the most touchdown passes, 199, breaking Bobby Layne’s mark of 196, and the most passes, 1,954, smashing another Layne record. In addij Tittle has connected for 33 passes this season, tying the; he set last year. He still In game to go, against Pittst; Sunday in the showdown for Eastern title. The latest statistics are itt;i sive, showing 204 completion; 341 attempts for a 59.8 and 2,837 yards. Admission for the game is 50 cents, which will go into the Twelfth Man Scholarship Fund. The 66 players, 33 to a team, were chosen from a turnout of over 150 students by varsity foot ball players who are doing the coaching. Such players as Mike Swan 1 , George Hargett, Jim Kel ler, Travis Reagan, Jim Willen- borg, Joe Wellborn and Ray Ku- bala are presently putting their teams through one-a-day practices in pads in preparation for the game. Sunday’s effort will climax two weeks of concentrated practice for both teams. According to Wayne Smith, fac ulty advisor for the Twelfth Man Bowl, plans to have the Kilgore Rangerettes for the half-time show fell through late Tuesday afternoon. Alternate plans, Smith said, included having the Aggie band and the Freshman Drill team furnish the half-time entertain ment. This is the second year the civi lians and the Corps have met on the gridiron in the Twelfth Man Bowl, said Smith. The civilians won the first encounter, which was played in Kyle Field two years ago. Last year the game was dis continued due to the condition of the field and a lack of equipment. In previous years, before the civilian - Corps competition, the Twelfth Man Bowl game had fea tured an ROTC battle of Army against Air Force. BY CHEVR0UT The kind of *0—6 or V8—you'd expect from one of Chevy’s great highway performers. Come on down and drive It. Now-Chevy spirit in a new kind of car! We built this one to do more than just stand around looking beautiful. Held its weight down in the 3,000- pound range. Then built four lusty engines—two sixes and two V8’s—with output all the way up to 220 horses*! And if that makes you think this is one frisky car, you’ve got the right idea. You’ve also got a roomy car here. Yet its 115-inch wheelbase keeps it highly maneuverable in traffic and very easy to park. With its Full Coil suspension, it’s got a ride that reminds you of the Jet-smooth kind the way it muffles noise and cushions bumps. And the fine hand of Body by Fisher craftsmen shows up beneath this one’s suave good looks, too. Sound good? There’s more. Like the fact that Chevelle comes in three series with eleven models—convertibles, sport coupes, sedans, wagons, even Super Sport models with front bucket seats. Like the fact that (and see if this isn’t one of the nicest surprises of all) the new Chevelle comes at an easy-to-take price! Like to hear more?
