Lenox has 380 points in 18 games for a 21.1 norm and 164 points in conference games for a 20.5 average. Lenox gained 23 points on scoring leader Kendall Rhine of Rice and is now only six points behind. Jerry Windham’s 15 rebounds against the Mustangs increased his team-leading total to 160 and a 10.7 average for the season, and to 87 for a 10.8 norm against SWC competition. Second leading rebounder for the Cadets is Lee Walker, who grabbed off eight against the Ponies. Walker has 129 for the season and 65 in the conference. John Beasley tallied 18 points for the Fish in their loss to the TCU Wogs Saturday night in Ft. Worth and retained his team scor ing lead. Beasley has 139 points in eight games for a 17.3 average. Dickie Stringfellow is second with 115 points in eight games and a 14.3 average. E. L. Ener NEW TRACK CAPTAINS ... Saturdays—10 a. m. - 5:30 p. m. 113 EAST 26th ST. — BRYAN, TEXAS (Next Door to Western Union) Back in September a group of touring sports writers interviewed some of the Aggie gridders who were sweating through the first stages of fall practice before school started. MOST of the footballers were asked about their impressions of the “new x’egime” of Hank Fold- berg. The most frequent answer was something to the effect that much more emphasis was being placed on academic matters. Some pretty ghastly tales were told of the penalties for class-cut ting and other scholastic delin quencies. Since Sports Information Direc tor Tommy Blake released the im pressive results of Aggie athletes’ fall semester endeavors last week end, it is pretty obvious that aca demic matters are being stressed. WE SEE THAT 42 varsity and freshman athletes posted a “B” average or better the past semes ter. Among the Fish, there were two lads with 3.00 GPR’s. Base ball players Lance Cobb and grid- der Mike Devine are both physics majors—that’s right, physics, not physical education. There were seven more among the freshmen who cleared the Distinguished Stu dent category with many grade points to spare. Seventy-six per cent of all var sity athletes posted at least a “C” average or better during the fall semester. Sixty-eight per cent of Get Lucky Flay "Crazy Questions” the Fish performed likewise. Among the footballers, 72 per cent of the varsity and 67 per cent of the freshmen maintained at least a “C” norm. ACCORDING, to the press re lease, one of the main reasons for the sudden improvement is a more “intensive and selective procure ment of future student-athletes” to meet the higher standards for admission and retention recently adopted by the college. Much of the credit goes to the direction of A. E. (Buddy) Denton, a full-time member of the athletic department who works with more than 200 student-athletes each year as an academic counselor.
