FATIGUES MAY BE WORN Tigers Count On Defense Against Navasota Tonight Coach -Hank Foldberg takes his multiple-multiple offense to the Bayou City Saturday to test the Rice Owls in broad daylight at Rice Stadium. Kickoff time is slated for 2 p.m. in this 47th meeting between the teams. A&M holds a 23-20-3 edge in the series, but has won only three of seventeen games against a Jess Neely-coached Rice team. The Aggies, with a 3-5 season irecord, stand 3-2 in conference play j and need this win to finish in the ! first division. Rice stands 1-4-2 for the season and 1-2-1 in the I swc. THE CADETS will be without i the services of fullback Sam Byer, j who suffered a dislocated elbow* in the SMU game. On the positive side of the ledger, halfback Danny Mcllhany, fullback Lee Roy Caffey and end James Drennan return to duty after having recovered from various injuries. Randy Kerbow, injury-plagued playcaller, is back at the helm of the Owls, but if his leg can’t stand up, soph surprise Walter McRey- nolds will take over. The Rice quarterbacks have a good target in Gene Raesz, an all- SWC end last season. Gene Flem ing wall be a break-away threat the Aggies will have to watch. The Maroon and White will counter with some threats of their own in halfbacks George Hargett, Eddie VanDyke and Tommy Meeks. WHILE the majority of college football teams really worry about stopping their opponents inside the 10-yard line, the Owls will be try ing extra hard to stop the Aggies, and particularly Mike Clark, out side the 30. And then that may not be far enough as Clark life a 42-yarder to beat. Baylor. Rice won last year’s game 5 and is wondering if this isi day for the Aggies to click om cylinders. The Tigers travel to Navasota to test the Rattlers at 7:30 p.m. “Every team we have played,” Jones added, “we have beaten in every way except on the score- board and that’s where it counts. The big plays, the long run, the long pass or the fumble deep in home territory, have accounted for every touchdown scored against us. “No team this season has scored against us on a consecutive drive downfield. We can handle those short continual runs up the middle or around end, but those big plays are the ones that get by us.” THE A&M TIGERS are tied with the Rattlers for fifth place. Friday night’s game will determine who will occupy the cellar in the district. Carrying the ball for the Tigers in the backfield will be Ozzie Burke (TB), Frank Litterst (FB), Jim Carroll (WB) and calling the plays will be Walter Varvel, the quarterback. Starting players in the Tiger line will be Mike Calliham (LE), J. W. Parsons (LT), Jay Pewth- ers (LG), Sydney Coufal (C), Dar rell Gossett (RG), David Parsons (RT) and David Harvell (RE). Four ex-University of Kentucky players are with National Bas ketball Association Teams. They are Adrian Smith of the Cincin nati Royals, Frank Ramsey with the Boston Celtics, John Cox with the Chicago Zephyrs and Cliff Hagan with the St. Louis Hawks.
