Finding accommodations for the inrush of visitors is another. In Seat tle, as the great day approaches, few people are busier than the official room hunters.) SEATTLE, Wash. UP) —You can, if you think you must, bring your horse to -the Seattle World’s Fair. Expo Lodging Service will find it a place to stay, with hay. Locating a stable for a mount— the Burley, Idaho, sheriff’s posse which will appear on the fair program, for instance, is bringing 35 horses—or a boarding kennel for a pooch are among the simpler problems for Expo Lodging. It’s the fair’s housing agency, charged with finding you a spot to lay your head while you’re here. Expecting up to 12 million heads. Expo is pressing a day and night search for pillows to match. In a city of 600,000, that’s a lot of extra pillows. More than 360,000 room nights have been reserved so far— about a tenth of the total avail able. Thp staff of 60, due to be doubled, sorts its mail into three stacks and calls them rush, urgent and frantic. As the April 21 opening of the fair nears, the urgent rush becomes more frantic. Some of the major hotels are booked solid to the Oct. 21 closing of the exposition. Some apartment buildings will switch to hotel-type operation. A British cruise ship, the Dominion Monarch, has been leased locally and will be a hotel, accommodating about 1,500 people. Negotiations are under way for other vessels which can be docked a short dis tance from the fair grounds. Some University of Washington fraternity and sorority houses will double this summer as hosts to fair visitors. Rooms in some private homes will be available. Ralph Lee, director of Expo, says housing prices have increased to some extent but rarely more than 10 to 12 per cent—about the same as during the 1961 tourist season. Many hotels are maintaining their regular price scales. Expo charges no fee for its serv ices. Almost all housing facilities are under Expo control. Expo has covered the natij; with printed application fottuj be distributed by auto clubs, hott^ motels, gas stations, airlines, traii agencies and other outlets. Buta you need is a postcard, saj^ when you’re coming, how many; your party, and what kind d accommodations you’d likeinwlij price range, and Expo will gef; work. vl Memo fnom...
