Duren’s prize animal will be sold at auction Friday morning. Young Duren is expected to receive at least $10,000 for the Hereford he raised on a town lot in Goldthwaite. Last year’s grand champion sold for $12,000. The Houston record is the $18,800 Johnny Wigley, also of Goldth waite, received for his 1953 grand champion. The victory by Horton’s Pride marked the twenty-fourth time for a Hereford to win the show. Requirements for membership are approved, educational training, years of approved social service experience, plus years of mem bership in the parent organiation The National Association of Soci al Workers The parent organization itself has strict membership require ments. Only a small per cent of those engaged professionally in the field qualify for membership. The general purpose of the NACSW is to give status to quali fied members and to raise stand ards and level of work in the ex panding field of sociology. The class began Monday and ends Sat urday, according to Robert O. Bor- iskie, information representative. This week’s class is the 15th in a series. Its objectives are to operate a training program for instructors in rescue operations, to SENATE (Continued from Page 1) blood taken in the annual spring blood drive to the J. K. and Susie L. Wadley Research Institute and Blood Bank of Dallas. Wadley representatives present ed the Senate a plaque in appreci ation of A&M’s participation in the program. The Dallas firm con ducts research, treats patients, op erates a blood bank and conducts graduate courses at its Dallas headquarters. All 177 pints of blood donated by A&M last year have been used already by the 26,000-pint-per-year operation. Senators were also told that Aggie Sweetheart Ann Edwards will represent A&M at the annual SMU “Manada Spring Weekend” in Dallas April 13-14. Miss Edwards will be a princess to the Manada Queen and will be escorted by an A&M student. SMU student officials have urged all A&M students to attend if possible. The Engineering Extension Ser vice is cooperating with the Texas Education Agency, and its school is coordinated with the Division of Defense and Disaster Relief of the state governor’s office. Equip ment is provided by the Federal Civil Defense Administration, the State of Texas, and A&M. Henry D. Smith, chief of the Fireman’s Training School and the Rescue Training School, heads a staff of six instructors. They are teaching rescue skills to 17 mem bers of various agencies such as police departments, fire depart ments, and civil defense organiza tions which are concerned with natural, man-made, and accident al disasters. Each day of first aid, eqiupment, and rescue instructions is divided into morning, evening, and night sessions which are conducted in the field, in the class room, and in a simulated disaster area. The realistic disaster area in cludes a large specially-built de molished building located on Dis aster Street near the Hensel Apart ments. Disaster Street provides realistic experience with removing casualties from wreckage, travel ing through debris-littered areas, and radio communications with other rescue agencies. The week-long school ends Sat urday noon with a graduation ceremony and a presentation of certificates. of the National Institute of Aero space Sciences. This committee has the reponsi- bility of formulating policy for fu ture IAS educational and student service programs and is comprised of men from the aerospace in dustries and educational institu tions. Rodenberger is currently serving on the state committee for educa tion of the Texas Society of Pro fessional Engineers. ★ ★ ★ Chris H. Groneman, Head of In dustrial Education, will serve as consultant to the First Annual Mississippi State Industrial Arts Clinic held on the Mississippi State University campus in State College. He will talk on “Indus trial Arts and its Contribution to Industrial Development.” ★ ★ ★ Twenty-one men are completing the sixth annual Advanced Drill ing Engineering Course held at A&M. The course, which ends March 2, is sponsored by the petroleum engineering department and the American Association of Oilwell Drilling Contractors. Subjects covered in lectures by the petroleum faculty and men in the oil industry include a review of rock properties, circulating fluids in the bore hole, drilling strings, rotary drilling bits, and a study of maintenance of the de sired direction of the drilled bore hole. Also Thursday the Senate ap proved a request of Dean of Stu dents James P. Hannigan to try a new system of dormitory con cessions. Hannigan had asked Senate ap proval of a plan to add additional concession machines and coin-op erated washer-dryer machines to all student dormitories. The plan, now approved, will see the program begun in several dormitories on a trial basis. The concession machines will be plac ed in dormitory lounges, with the washing facilities in dormitory basements.
