Page 4 THE BATTALION College Station, Texas Friday, February 9, 19G2 IN DALLAS Ags Seek "Big’ Win Over SMU Ponie s With each Southwest Confer ence game, the Aggies come either closer or farther from the cham pionship. As the SWC play has hit the mid-way point, each gapie is a “must” for every team in the league. The Aggies have three re maining games on the road and they are against the top three— Texas Tech, SMU and Rice. One of these games comes up Saturday night in the SMU Coliseum when the Cadets tangle with the “al- ways-tough” Ponies. The leader of the Mustangs and among the top three scorers in the SWC is G-6 forward Jan Louder- milk. The 225-pounder from Rig Spring is having his finest year in college basketball this season, but the Aggies* and Jerry Wind ham put the hex on him in College Station earlier this year as he scored only five points. All of these points were on free throws. Another top performer for SMU is 6-2 guard James Thompson, who has been hampered the last few weeks with an injury. He should be in top condition for the A&M game, however. Now that Carroll Broussard has hit his peak of the season, the Aggies could be tough to stop. Broussard scored 26 points against the Rice Owls Tuesday night, which was his highest scoring game for the 1961-62 season. SMU, with its highly spirited crowds, is very difficult to beat in Dallas. Out of the two games that the Ags and Ponies played last year, they each won one. A&M soundly downed SMU in friendly G. Rollie White Coliseum, 80-66, but the competitien was con- sidcrably stiffer on the SMU Col iseum floor as the Ponies were vic torious, 65-61, in a contest nuarred by paper throwing and flag wav ing. In the first meeting of the teams this winter, the Aggies routed the Mustangs at Aggie- land, 75-55. Aggie Coach Bob Rogers '■will probably go with the five that started against Rice—Bennie Len ox, Ron Durbon, Carroll Tfcroxis- snrd. Tommy Smith and Jerry Windham. The probable starting lineup for Coach “Doc” Hayes’ Ponies will be Jim Hammond, Jan Loudermilk, Dave Siegmund, James Thonapson and Jim Brockman. Ags Have High Statistics In Season Competition Next home game for the Aggies will be Tuesday night in G. Rollie White Coliseum when the Texas Longhorns invade. The contest is expected to be a sellout. Benny Johnson . .
