UP>—Into each married life a little rain must fall, the First Texas Court of Appeals ruled Thursday. The court reversed a divorce decree granted by a lower court to Bert L. Schyrock of Kountze, Tex. He had alleged mental cruel ty, charging his wife with pouring beer over his head, flinging ash trays and, on one occasion, throw ing his shaving kit at him. Such acts, the court said, should be considered a consequence of married life. Grants Used For Nuclear Lab Facilities By JIM HAMILTON Battalion Staff Writer An $18,000 Atomic Energy Com mission grant was recently given to the Department of Nuclear En gineering to purchase new labora tory equipment. This grant, when combined with $8,000 in state funds given to the department, has made possible ex tensive new facilities to aid in the teaching of nuclear science courses, especially the industrial applications of radioisotopes course (Nuclear Engineering 402 —offered in spring semester only). The main benefit from the grants so far has been a Radio isotope Detection Laboratory in the Engineering Building. This lab will be used for training and research in the application and utilization of radioisotopes in in dustry and agriculture. In Texas, the main industry to benefit from such studies will be the petroleum industry. Research will also be conducted which could benefit the auto industry, such as auto wax wear studies and engine wear studies. Almost any type of research and study involving wear on something can be conducted in this laboratory with the aid. of radioisotopes. The new laboratory will also be used for graduate research and instruction, and for summer in stitutes and short courses. John D. Randall, assistant pro fessor of Nuclear Engineering, said: “Now that we have this new equipment, it will be possible to incorporate laboratory demonstra tions in our industrial applications of radioisotopes course.” “Since most of the techniques and methods presented in this course are novel to the students, the use of demonstrations and ex periments will enhance our teach ing effectiveness,” Randall added. Dr. John R. Cullum called the committee together to resign. “I feel that conservatives of Texas can accomplish more for the cause of a return to true consti tutional government through the Republican Party than as a mi nority element in the Democratic Party,” he said. At the same meeting, Isaac Sat- terwhite, a veteran precinct chair man, was appointed county chair man. MURPHY (Continued From Page 1) ment program conducted in Texas for the past three years, Campbell Soup Company has been engaged in research experiments on tomatoes and carrots in Texas since 1954, assisted by members of the staff of A&M College and, in genetic research, also assisted by the Ear- hart Laboratories at Caltech, he added. Pointing out that agricultural re search has played an important part in the decision of Campbell Soup Company to build a plant in Texas, Murphy said, ‘A business such as ours requires a long per iod of agricultural experimenta tion to be certain that a substant ial portion of the large volume of food ingredients needed for our products can be grown successfully in the nearby area.” Speaking of the challenges fac ing agricultural research scient ists today, Murphy said, “Things cannot stand as they are when so much remains to be done, not only for reasons of food supply but just as important, because the food industry of North America must keep itself competitive in the world markets.” Toward this end, he cited the contributions to agricultural re search by food processors, point ing out in considerable detail how research in a number of specific crops had improved both quality and yield. He said also that this research benefits not only the pro cessor but the grower and ulti mately the consumer. “To keep his .business moving a- head, the enlightened processor finds it necessary to take every practical step to maintain and im prove the values he offers the con sumers. tice of the Peace B. F. Beard with armed bank robbery. He waived examining trial and was held when he could not make $50,000 bond. The FBI filed in the U.S. Dis trict Court at Tyler charges of bank robbery and kidnaping under the Federal Bank Robbery Act against Carter. The charges alleged that in ad dition to robbing the bank Carter kidnaped Texas Ranger Tully Seay as a hostage. Asst. U.S. Atty. Leyton Cornett said conviction on the combined federal charges carries a mini mum sentence of 10 years in prison and a maximum penalty of death if the jury ,so requests. Conviction on the state charge carries a sentence of from 5 years to life in prison. Carter was taken from Anahuac to Nacogdoches, the county seat of the county where the robbery took place, in the early morning hours. He was questioned by state, federal and local officers during the day. SUPER SMOOTH SHAVE New"wetter-than-water"action melts beard's tough, ness—in seconds.
