. Fans, Coaches
Like Wild Card
Substitution Rule
By The Associated Press
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — College
football’s wild card substitution
rule apparently has received the
overwhelming approval of coaches
and fans alike, the chairman of
the NCAA Rules Committee said
today.
Gen. Robert R. Neyland, Uni
versity of Tennessee athletic di
rector and head of the committee,
said he had heard nothing but
praise for the rule.
The rule allows a coach to send
in one player between plays with
out taking a time out or a penalty.

Caffey, Murphy—Second
Both Lee Roy Caffey and Jim
Murphy are close for the second

9 District Champs
Already Determined
By The Associated Press
Nine district representatives
have been determined and at least
a score of others will be known
this week in a Texas schoolboy
football campaign rushing toward
its. state playoffs.
El Campo will be at Bay City
Friday night in a fight between
teams with perfect records and
the winner will become an over
whelming favorite for the Dist. 11
championship in Class AAA.
In Class A, George West, unde
feated and untied, meets once-tied
Poth with George West able to win
the District 30 championship. Vic
tory by Poth would leave the title
up to "the Poth-J ourdivito wn game
Nov. 11.
None of the Class AAAA unde
feated and untied appear to face
trouble and it isn’t likely than any
district title will be detennined.
This division, like Class AAA, has
three more weeks to run. Class
AA and A wind up the district
races Nov. 11.
There are 96 districts in the
four divisions that play to state
championships. These district rep
resentatives have been decided:
Class AA: 3—Denver City, 6—
Anson, 9—Olney, 11—Lancaster,
15—Terrell, 26—Sweeny.
Class A: 9—Copperas Cove, 12
—Keller, 22—Clifton. .
Baytown, the top-rated team of
Class AAAA, moves toward a
showdown in District 12. The
Ganders play at Galena Park fa
vored to win with comparative
ease. Freeport, another member
of this district and also boasting
an unbeaten, untied record, plays
South Houston.
Baytown and Freeport are ex
pected to meet Nov. 11 with the
title on the line.
Jacksonville, the No. 1 team of
AAA, plays at Center Friday night
but can’t sew up the District 7
title. Nacogdoches, which has on
ly one loss, has an open date and
plays Jacksonville Nov. 11.
