The workshop spon sored by the Department of Journalism, ends Friday at noon. Kiwanians Plan Local Book Drive A drive to collect books for chil dren in the elementary grades of the A&M Consolidated School will be conducted by the College Sta tion Kiwanis Club. The books will he used to es tablish a library in the school. Books needed are for children from the first through the fifth grade and would include picture books, books on elementary sci ence, fiction and non-fiction for this age group, biographies and books on history and travel. Books for older students are ac ceptable and will he placed in the junior high and high school Li brary. Magazines are wanted for the library also, but the needs are con fined to copies of Jack & Jill, Child Life, Children Activities, Na tional Geographies, Fish and Game, Boys Life, Life and Holiday. Those who have suitable books for donation to the library are ask ed to carry them to the A&M Con solidated Junior High School Li brary from 8 a.m. to 12 noon dur ing the week of August 8-12. Those who are unable to carry the books may call for someone to pick them up Saturday morning, Aug. 13, or they may carry them to the school cafeteria that date. For this service, donors may call any member of the College Station Kiwanis Club, Mrs. John T. Girl Scout Troup No. 12 has al ready been working with some of the books, mending them and get ting them ready for the elemen tary library. These girls are un der the leadership of Mrs. W. P. Worley. Eight members of the Depart ment of Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology will partici pate in out-of-state conferences during August. They are A. B. Wooten, associ ate professor; John G. McNeely, professor; Clarence A. Moore, as sociate professor; Bardin A. Nel son, professor; Henry Courtenay, assistant professor; R. L. Skraba- nek, professor; A. D. Jones, agri cultural economist with the U. S. Department of Agriculture; and Lloyd Bergsma, farm management specialist. Wooten will participate in the Western Resources Conference Aug. 21 at the University of Col orado, a session to discuss pro cedures in evaluating water de velopment projects. McNeely will serve as chairman of the Live stock Marketing Section of the an nual meeting of the Western Farm Economics Assn., Aug. 24-26 at Stanford University. A paper entiled “Decision Mak ing Processes in Farmer Co-Op eratives” will be presented by Moore at the Co-Operative Re search Workshop Aug. 4-10 at the University of California. He also will take part in the annual meet ing of the American Institute of Co-Operation on the same dates at the university. Nelson, Courtenay and Skraba- nek will attend the annual meet ing Aug. 25-27 of the Rural So ciological Society at Pennsylvania State University. Nelson will present a paper en titled “Response Variations Oc curring in the Use of Different Techniques” and Courtenay will talk on “An Analysis of Response Variation Encountered When Se lected Interviewing Techniques Are Used in Consumer Market Re search.” Skrabanek will serve as chairman of the Rural Education Section. Jones will represent the USDA Agricultural Marketing Service at the Western Regional Wool Mar keting Technical Committee meet ing Aug. 3-5 at Corvallis, Ore. He will remain in the western states for an extended period to obtain information on wool-scour ing operations and wool flow pat terns, including modes of trans portation.
