i rK 6 Thursday. December, 17, 1959 THE BATTALION Undefeated Ags Face Cougars In Rematch at Houston Tonight The undefeated A&M basketball team, winners of four straight con tests on the home soil of White Coliseum, take to the road for the first time this year tonight when they travel to Houston for a re turn ms tch with the University of Houston Cagers. A&M dumped the Cougars in a game played earlier at Aggieland, (57-49, in a contest that saw the Aggies’ Pat Stanley hold Hous ton’s Cary Phillips to six points, all free throws. The Farmer’s de fense was so tough that night that Houston made only 28 per cent of their shots from the floor while the Aggies were making 44.1 per cent of their shots count. Senior Pete Markle has turned in the best performances for Houston lately, with Phillips also doing his share in leadipg the Cats to an impressive row of victoiues. Houston will be without the services of 6-5 Ted Luckenbill, the tall man on the Houston team. Luckenbill broke his hand in their puting against the Aggies, and has yet to see service. ‘Luckenbill might play some tonight. The Cougars will probably start Markle and Richard Molchany at foi’wards, Phillips and Jim Lem mon at guard, and Dan Palombizio is the top replacement for the at forward-center. Coach Guy Lew- I Cougars. is can also be expected to use 6-11 Coach Bob Rogers will probably Bill Hathaway at center during counter with a team made up of the game Senior Bryan Schinler | Carroll Broussard and Wayne Only Soph Cage Starter Has Trouble, Bright Future As the only sophomore in the A&M staring lineup, Car- roll Broussard has had his troubles but Coach Bob Rogers figures the sky’s the limit for the 6-5, former all-American. Broussard was chosen the out standing freshman in the South west Conference last year as he averaged 19.5 points per game. He has an uncanny eye for the basket and hit 50 percent of his field goal attempts as a freshman. But this year, even though he’s the leading scorer with a 13-point average, he’s had trouble finding his eye. “Carroll has been trying too hard,” Rogers says of his top soph, “but one of these night’s he’s going to fill it (basket) up.” * As a member of Pete Pense’s Yellow Jackets, Broussard and Port Arthur ^on the state champ ionship his junior year against Pampa, but lost to Pampa in the finals a year later by one point. Broussard averaged 26 points per game his senior year and had one 44-point game against Fort Worth Poly in a Dallas tourney. He was chosen All-State tourna ment player two years and was named to the All-America West Squad that won two of three games over an Eastern team at Hutchison, Kan. A good, all-around player, Brous sard had his greatest thrill in a Houston tournament his junior year when Port Arthur won two games in one day, both by one point. These were against Milby and Galena Park. Annett at guard, Pat Stanley and Kelly Chapman at forwards, and Wayne Lawrence at center. Wil- mer Cox and Don Stanley are also possible starters for the Aggies. A&M will journey to Houston Dec. 28-30 for the Southwest Con ference Tournament, and will open the SWC basketball race Jan. 5 in White Coliseum against the Baylor Bears. It is the second school day after the holidays. All league teams will officially open, conference warfare the fifth, with SMU meeting Texas at Aus tin in the top game of the day. TCU journeys to Arkansas for their tilt with the Razorbacks, and Rice goes to West Texas to meet Texas Tech.
