Two Yugoslav Men Attend Reception A reception held last night in President Rudder’s home for for eign students and exchange visitors by the International Relations Committee of University Women, the Campus Study Club and the Pan American Round Table Club was attened by two agricultural scientists from Yugoslavia. Dr. Popovski of Skopia, Yugo slavia and Mr. Zivkovic of Novi Sad, Yugoslavia, are .in this coun try to study the alkalinity and salinity of the; soil in different parts of the United States. Dr. Popovski said that his country has soil with a high alkaline content and many scientists are sent to different countries each year to study ways to combat this prob lem. Before coming to A&M the men visited Iowa State University, sev eral sites in California and our A&M College System agricultural substation at Ilata near El Paso. Thursday and Friday they will visit the sub-station at Weslaco and then travel to Beaumont. They will later go back to Washington D.C. and then to their own country. The MSC Assembly Room was the scene Tuesday night for the 10th Anniversary Banquet of the student chapter of the Associated Genei’al Contractors of America. The club, composed of architec tural construction and civil engi neering students, is Unique in that it is one of two student chapters in the United States. The other chapter is located at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. John Huebinger, president of the club, introduced the guest con tractors present who x-epresented various areas of the state. Joe Baxter, prominent Houston con tractor, served as guest speaker to the group. Among others who attended were Theo R. Holleman, head of the Division of Archi tecture; Samuel R. Wright, head of the Department of Engineering; Fred J. Benson, dean of engineer ing; Jnhn G. McGuire, assistant dean of engineering; and Charles J. Godwin, Faculty Sponsor of the club. The A&M student chapter was formed in 1949 under the sponsor ship of the Houston A.G.C. Chap ter. For more than 39 years, the professional chapter of the A.G.C. has been the national organization through which leading contractors, in all types of construction, have developed and maintained a high standard of professional ability. The A.G.C. membership now totals over 6,900 construction companies and firms which execute the ma jor portion of all construction work in the United States. Steers, Cadets Top SWC Cage Race By The Associated Press Texas continued its scoring ram page Monday night with an 84-67 victory over Louisiana State that pushed the Longhorns into a tie for the lead with A&M in the Southwest Conference basketball campaign. Each now has a 4-0 record. The Longhorns boast an average of almost 90 points per game as they look toward an invasion of Oklahoma to play Oklahoma City University and Tulsa. Rice won its second game in a row by strapping Tulane 93-79 with David Craig hitting for 32 points, but Texas Christian took a 72-64 licking from Creighton. By winning two out of three Monday night the Southwest Con ference went all-even for the sea son in intersectional warfare.
