PAGE 2 THE BATTALION Friday, October 23, 1959 Job Interviews Letters To The Editor The Battalion welcomes letters to the editor hut reserves the right to edit letters for brevity, clearness and accuracy. Short letters stand a better chance for publication since space is at a premium. Unsigned letters will not be published. .. Editor, The Battalion: This letter is an answer to ci vilian student Howard B. Cond- ren. The first thing we would like to know is where do you get the idea that we in the Corps live like kings? You speak of dirty floors and windows. Have you ever wondered why our dorms are clean ? They are clean because we sweep and wax our floors every once in a while. We also wash our windows. They may not have had brooms and mops at Podunk U., but Lou sells them real cheap over at the North Gate. We may be house pets, but at least we are house broken. College Who’s Who Nominations Due Early Next Month Nominations for Who’s Who Among Students in American Uni versities and Colleges will be ac cepted starting next Monday. Ap plications for the honor must be filed by Nov. 6. Forms will be available in the Memorial Student Center post of fice area, the Commandant’s Of fice and the Department of Stu-. dent Affairs in the Housing Office. The applications may be filed by the student himself, another class mate, members of the faculty or members of the college staff. Deans of A&M degree-granting schools and the Dean of Students will be sent letters inviting them to nominate a student for the high est recognition offered by any col lege. To be considered for Who’s Who a student must be a senior (95 hours), have a grade point ratio of 1.50, be active in campus ac tivities, show qualities of leader ship and be popular with fellow students. A student may be considered for Who’s Who only once. Approximately 35 students from A&M will be selected from nom inations sometime in December. Those selected will be announced before the Christmas holidays. We, the Men of Aggieland, are proud we are here. Do you con sider yourself a Man of Aggie land when you say you are “stuck” here? You may not have known Highway 6 runs both ways before you came, but it’s out there and it’s still running both ways. We, the men in the Corps at Aggieland, have given this school its reputation and it’s about time the select few, misinformed non- regs learned this. We will admit that our dorms are not the fanciest in the state, but at least we, in the Corps do something about it rather than sit around and gripe to the Edi tor of the Battalion. But Miguel de Cervantes beat him to it in "Don Quixote", Part II, Book 3: "Even a worm when trod upon, will turn again." • • * "MUSIC HAS CHARMS” The 17th Century playwright, William Congreve, was the first to set down this classic metaphor concerning the powers of sound and rhythm. You'll find the whole quote in "The Mourning Bride ", Act I, Sc. 1: "Music hath charms to soothe the savage breast, To soften rocks, or bend a knotted oak.” "RHYME OR REASON” Edmund Spenser, 16th Century poet, expected a pension. He didn’t get it. So he wrote this rhyme: "/ was promised on a time/To have reason for my rhyme;/From that time unto this season,/ I received nor rhyme nor reason.” Jockeif Underwear BRAND Of all the kinds of underwear, only Jockey brand is espe cially tailored to feel better because it fits better.
