Three Architects Win Awards Three A&M students have been named winners in the 1959 Light for Living Medallion home design competition for student architects. They are Paul M. Terrill Jr. of Houston, Rex M. Boone of San Angelo, and Brady D, Armstrong of Shreveport, La. Each student received a check for $409 and A&M received $100 for each student winner. The contest was sponsored na tionally by Edison Electric Insti tute, in Houston by Houston Light ing and Power Co., in the San An gelo area by West Texas Utilities Co. of Abilene, and in Shreveport by Southwestei-n Electric Power Co. The competition, open to stu dents of accredited schools of arch itecture, was designed to stimulate student and public interest in bet ter lighting and to acquaint stu dents with some of the latest ad vances in lighting, wiring and other electrical facilities. Students could enter plans suit ed for the Northeast, Northwest, Southeast and Southwest regions. The A&M students, the only Texas or Louisiana college students named winners in the national com petition, designed houses suited for the Southwest climate. The homes designed by the students could not exceed 1,300 square feet of living area, nor cost more than $20,000, exclusive of lot, but must accommodate a family of four and include electrical equip ment and major appliances. Frenchman Fails in Balloon Attempt PARIS OP)—A French scientist soared away on a string of pearly white balloons Wednesday night for a clear peep at Venus from the stratosphere. Audouin Dollfuss came back to earth safely early Thursday, the French Air Force reported, without having attained his goal. The takeoff was from Paris and the landing between Nevers and Moulins, the air base at Bretigny reported. An air officer said the maximum height reached was between 38,000 and 43,000 feet. He had hoped to rise to 82,500 feet and make ob servations of the planet Venus. CSC Members To Talk Banquet The Civilian Student Council Banquet Monday evening is ex pected to dominate the discussion at the Civilian ' Student Council meeting tonight at 7:15 in the Sen ate Chamber of the Memorial Stu dent Center. The annual banquet will be held Monday at 6 p.m. in the Assembly Room of the MSC. The outstand ing council member will be named at the banquet and various other awards will be presented. Other business on tonight’s agenda includes a report on fi nance, a student Senate report, a report from the Public Information Committee, the leadership retreat and a weekend report. New business will include a dis cussion of Parents’ Day, a Chap lain Selection Committee report and discussion of the election of officers. “Incoming members will attend this meeting as guests of the Council so they can become ac quainted with each other and Coun cil procedures to better enable them to assume their duties at the next regular meeting,” Fred Pen dleton, secretary, said. ForeignOil Imports Slump to Low Level NEW YORK (A*)—Imports of foreign oil slumped last week to their lowest level in more than a year, the American Petroleum Institute disclosed Wednesday. U. S, buyers received 1,114,600 barrels of foreign crude and prod ucts a day—lowest since the daily average of 1,080,600 barrels in the week ended Feb. 21, 1958. Output of U.S. fields averaged 7,133,025 barrels of crude oil and lease condensate a day, a decline of 1,100 from the week before. Daily production a year ago was 6,267,835 barrels. Twenty-two countries, including the United States, participate in an international coffee study group in Washington, D. C. to try to steady fluctuating coffee prices.
