All A&M spring sport teams will be in action before the home folks and thousands of visitors Satur day with the exception of the golf team which meets Baylor here Fri day afternoon. Coach Joe Fagan moved the Southwest conference golf match to make way for the annual high school invitational golf meet on the A&M course all day Saturday. Other features of Saturday’s an nual Spring Sports Day will be the Aggie-Rice baseball game at 2 p.m.; a triangular track and field meet between A&M, Rice and SMU at 2:30; a tennis match with Trin ity at 1 p.m. and the 7:30 p.m. intrasquad football game. A&M and Rice originally sche duled to play both Friday and Sat urday in Houston this week but now the clubs will play in Houston Friday and return to Kyle Field here Saturday. •Aggie gridders have completed two weeks of workouts but were rained out twice last week. The spring drills will close out April 25 with the final spring game. Coach Tom Chandler’s baseball- ers, in second place behind Texas following their 2-1 decision over Baylor last week, have compiled a 4-2 record in conference play and 10-4 for the season. The Aggie golf team, after los ing the opener to Texas Tech, has won recent matches with TCU and Arkansas. The A&M tennis team lost to Texas and Texas Tech in SWC matches played this spring. Red Raider Netters Defeat A&M Squad The Texas Tech Red Raiders swept all matches in a Southwest Conference tennis meet with A&M Saturday in Lubbock. The Aggies have yet to win a game in SWC play this season and have an 0-12 record. at the plate by slamming a double and a single, driving in the tying run in the seventh inning. The victory gave the Farmers a 4-2 SWC mark and kept the Ag gies in the pennant race, a scant Half game behind the league lead ing Texas Longhorns who dropped the Rice Owls Friday. Baylor and Texas. Christian are tied for the cellar, each with 2-4 records. Baylor scored th.eir lone run in the fourth frame when, with two men away, Ed Carrekk and Don Riddle banged two doubles in a row for the marker. Riddle’s dou ble was a ground rule affair that occured when the ball bounced through the screen for what at first went for a home run. Aggie coach Tom Chandler stormed out of the dugout in protest and the umpires ruled it a ground rule double, sending Rid dle back to second. Chandler and the entire Aggie bench came out of the dugout again in the seventh when San derson tried to steal home on a hit and run play, and was suc cessful too, except he was ruled out because Lloyd Stone had in terfered at the plate where he was batting. Chandler was thrown out of the game, but the umpire did ! not enforce his ruling and the firey Aggie coach was allowed to continue leading his team. A&M’s first talley came in the seventh when Stuffy Davis dou bled and scored on Sanderson’s single after second baseman Dink Patterson had gone down swing ing. The Farmers went ahead to win in the next inning when first base- man Dick Hickerson lofted a sacrifice fly to score Windel Reed who had advanced on a walk, wild pitch and a sacrifice. Baylor refused to call it quits in the final two innings and load ed the bases in both frames be fore the Cadets could quiet the rallies and retire the side. A&M will host St. Mary’s Uni versity of San Antonio here today at Kyle Field in a non-conference tilt and will jump back into South west Conference play Friday and Saturday against the Rice Owls, a team that defeated the Aggies earlier in the season by one run. Aggie GblfingTeam Drops Razorbacks Defending Southwest Conference golf champion Arkansas lost their third straight match of the year Saturday in Fayetteville to the Texas Aggies, 4-2. The win moved the Farmers in to fifth place in the SWC race be hind Texas Tech, TCU, Texas and Arkansas. The Cadets boast an 8-10 mark.
