Texat- About the Churches Former Student Returns To Lead Episcopal Church ('Rfl. ^5ote: This is the sixth in a series of articles designed to acquaint students with churches in the area in connection with Re ligious Emphasis Week.) By ROBBIE GODWIN Battalion Staff Writer The story of the Rev. WilJiain Oxley, rector of the St. Thomas Episcopal Chapel, is one of an Ag gie who came back to lead others. The Rev. Oxley graduated with the Class of '39 in chemical engi neering after coming to A&M from Arizona. He worked as an engi neer for two years before entering the seminary in Berkley, Calif. Before returning to Aggieland, the Rev. Oxley served as pastor of a mission church at the University of Texas. Working closely with the Rev. Oxley in the church is a UT man, Chaplain Earle Martin, but Rev. Oxley said they get along fine. “We Professor Keese Speaks at Seminar Prof. C. J. Keese of the Depart ment of Civil Engineering, waS one of the speakers at Regional Sem inars of Freeway Operations held in Augusta, Ga. and Fort Worth recently under the sponsorship of the Institute of Traffic Engineers. He spoke on the results of free way operation research conducted by the Transportation Institute and the State Highway Depart ment. He also served as chairman of the technical session at the recent semi-annual meeting of the In stitute of Ti-affic Engineers at Austin. It was first planned for construction at North Gate. But Avhen plans for the New Coips area were complete, they built it on its present location on Jersey Street, set back in a grove of trees and surrounded with an air of serenity. In 1947, Parish Hall was built in back of the chapel and serves as a nursery at the present time. The minister’s office is located in a white frame building next to the chapel. It once served as a rect- ory. Before the buildings were erect ed, the group met in Guion Hall and the YMCA, and was served by laymen or a Bryan pastor. “The thing we have to offer is two ministers who are able to make personal contacts among the stu dents and better fill their needs,” the Rev. Oxley said. Look at the record! Millions of boys and girls tinder twenty-one in trouble with the police— dope traffic among tee.n-agers—organized crime by minors. But this is not always juvenile delinquency. This is often the tragedy of ADULT DELINQUENCY. It is fi'equently the result of neglect, indifference, and lack of Christian training in our homes. It is the failure of parents that has led to the wreckage of many of these young lives. Bring your child to Sunday School and Church. Give him the spiritual cai’e that he wants and needs. Remember, Mother and Dad, we cannot always say, “juvenile delinquency.” Be sure it is not your failure which may cause your child to ruin his life. Copyright 1959, Keister Adv. Service, Strasburg, Va. The‘Church is the grealcst faclor on earth for the building of character and good citizenship. It is a storehouse of spiritual values. Without a strong Church, neither democracy nor civilization can survive. There are four sound reasons why every person should attend services regularly and support the Church. They are: (l) For his own sake. (2) For his children’s sake. (3) For the sake of his community and nation. (4) For the sake of the Church itself, which needs his moral and material support. Plan to go to church regularly and read your Bible daily.
