Building Plans have been completed for the construction of a petroleum engineei’ing building at A&M. Bids for construction will be i’e- ceived on Feb. 10, 1959. The board of directors of the Texas A&M College System has allocated $1,140,000 for the new structure, including furniture and equipment. Ike Shows Spirit Despite Party Loss By ARTHUR EDSON WASHINGTON bT > )—The champ has recovered. He can sit up and take political nourishment. He showed he also can dish it out sinyce, without using the exact words, he called former President Trutnan a liar. The champ, of course, is Presi dent Eisenhower, who has just held his first news conference in five \v r eeks. His hist one had come on Nov. 5, before all the votes had been counted hut not before it was ob vious that from coast to coast the Republicans! had taken a fearful beating. Reporters hurried in to ask that awful questikm: “What happen ed?” The story of that conference read pretty much like all after- the-fight dressing room stories. “What did he bit you with?” the reporters ask. “I don’t know,” says the baffled warrior. Political reporters, in recon structing the Nov. 5 scene, said Eisenhower appeared puzzled. Fight writers, in describing simi lar scenes, usually use the word groggy. Wefl, Eisenhower came in brisk ly Wednesday and immediately launched into a five-minute lecture on the necessity—indeed, the mor al duty—for defending Berlin. Then came the customary flow of questions. It wasn’t until Ti-uman’s name came up that Eisenhower showed he still was in fighting trim. On Monday, you may remember Truman said Eisenhower had been mad at him since 1952, but “I don’t give a damn.” There was nothing personal, Truman said. It was just that he had “raised hell” with Eisenhower six years ago “when he didn’t knock Sen. William Jenner off the platform after he called Gen. Mar shall a traitor.” “It that good history?” Eisen hower was asked. The President started out by saying everyone knows he has a little too much sense to get mad at anyone, but he looked at least a little mad as he said it.
