Right-hander Joe Thompson took over the mound for the Ags in the first inning and was never in trouble as he went the route, striking out 11 men and yielding six meager hits. The Cadets started their scoring parade in the top of the second with two runs. The inning began with a single clown the right field line by Bryan Barber. A fielder’s choice put Larry Huitt on first and Don Davis walked to load the bases. Barber was forced at home"* to prevent on e score, but Thompson walked, letting Huitt in for the first talley. Kettler hit a high fly out to left field for an out but Davis scored before the ball could be thrown home. A&M scored again in the fourth frame after Thompson was safe on first on an error by the Rambler centerfielder. Kettler stepped into the batter’s box for the Farmers and smashed a drive down the third base line that took a crazy hop away from the fielder’s glove. The Allen shortstop grabbed the ball and threw to second trying to catch the Ag runner, but overthrew the base and scored Thompson. The Ramblers threatened in the bottom of the fourth, but the Ag gies rallied to stop the threat leav ing two runnel’s on base. Randy Wortham slashed a drive into left field for a single in the fifth, and was homered home by Barber’s grand slam over the left field fence. The Cadets had placed two more men on base before the inning ended. Farmer scoring ended in the sixth inning after Allen Hurler Tony Arce loaded the bases with two away and walked Kettler home. — Thompson, former S. F.
