V TKe Battalion -.** College Btatfon (Brazos County/, Texas ^AGFi 4 Tuesday, Match 4, 1958 Spring Style Show Highlights Social Club Luncheon Meeting Local Enthusiasts Form Model Club A group of airplane enthusiasts organized the “Bryan Modeleers” last Friday night at Coulter Field, hoping to provide a better place for local modelers to fly. Newly-elected president, M. R. Osborn, announced that a hand- launched glider contest will be held on March 9, at Coulter Field. The gliders will be limited to a 20-inch wingspan and prizes will be given in the senior and junior divisions. Other officers elected were Hen ry Stallings, vice president and Mrs. John Elliott, secretary. ■ Club meetings will be held at Coulter Field on the last Friday in each month, and flying sessions Will be held each Sunday from 1-5 p.m. Members of the Club will provide free flying lessons to any one interested. A&M MENS SHOP 103 MAIN — NORTH GATE AGGIE OWNED Student Christian Conference Slated For This Weekend Sixth annual Ecumenical Student Christian Conference will be held Friday through Sunday at the A&M Methodist and A&M Presbyterian Churches of College Station. Delegates are expected from col leges and universities all over Tex as, Oklahoma and Arkansas. The conference, following the theme, “Why Ecumenicity?,” will have as its speaker Dr. John Desh- ner of Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University. The Bible lectures will be given by the Rev. Lee Philip, dean of the chapel at Prairie View A&M. Sponsors of the conference are the Presbyterian, Methodist, United Christian, Lutheran and Episcopal Churches, the Disciples of Christ and the YMCA. All Christian students are urged to attend the conference. They may register with any of the spon soring groups. Spring came early when mem bers and guests of the A&M Wo men’s Social Club gathered Friday afternoon at the Briarcrest Country Club for a luncheon style show. Modeled for the appreciative audience was an exciting new ar ray of spring and summer fashions —including the new chemise crea tions, silk and woolen suits, colorful print blouses, coats, sportswear, cocktail frocks, formals, hats and appropriate accessories. The fashions were provided by Lester’s Smart Shop of Bryan. Models chosen from the Social Club members, were the Mesdames Spike White, Phil Cutchin, Charles Richardson, Robei’t Branson, Wal ter Delaplane, Willie Zapalac, Wayne Stark, C. H. Groneman, G'eorge Huebner, Ross Strader, Horace Bass, Robert K a m m, George Wilcox, M. T. Harn'ng- ton, Jim Myers and Henry Ditt- man. Mrs. A. B. Medlen provided a musical background for the show. Intermission featured several viol in selections by Miss Melanie Clark. Edward L. Scott, Jack Konecny, B. A. Rogers and Wilbur Wilson. Newcomers Club, hostesses for the day, had Mrs. Edward L. Scott as chaiman. Special hostesses were the Mesdames H. J. Hirsch, Charles Lyons, H. A. Lowe, R. B. Stewart, G. E. Bayliss, C. P. Ziet- low and W. H. Clayton. Course On Jesus To Begin Tonight The Rev. Bob Monk, director of the Wesley Foundation, will begin a course in the “Life and Teach ings of Jesus” at. 7:30 p.m. to day at the Wesley Foundation building next to the A&M Meth odist Church. The course will continue each Tuesday night during March and April. Although designed primarily for students who cannot take Bible courses in their regular curricula, the course is open to any interested person in the community. Equipment School Begins March 24 The Heavy Construction Equip ment School will be held at A&M March 24-May 2, according to En gineering Extension Service offi cials. The six-week school is primarily designed to teach personnel to op erate heavy construction equip ment. Noel as editor of the organization’s official publica tion, The Texas Engineer. Noel, an instructor in the De partment of Civil Engineering, is also a research assistant in the Texas Transportation Institute where he is working on a research project concerning heavy motor ve hicle loads and their effects on highway bridges.
