Doak, horticultur ist and arranger, entertained “The Little Sprouts” Junior Garden Club Saturday with a program on “Beauty in Com mon things—Rock and Minerals.” Dr. Doak, a frequent contributor to flower shows and winder of many blue ribbons for his original uses of driftwood, presented a display including sea urchins, a rectangular stone containing a per fect fossilized fish, and a piece of petrified wood complete with “pet rified worm.” The driftwood ranged from “Dancing Girl,” a piece resembling modern sculpture, to others re sembling a goat’s head, cat, dog, octopus and snake. Dr. Doak showed his audience how rocks, weathered wood and driftwood can be combined with figurines to express action, por tray a mood or tell a story. To illustrate this point, he showed a composition, “Threaten ed Intrusion,” in which he used weathered wood and driftwood with a small tiger and black pan ther to tell an animal story. During the business session, the following officers were elected to serve during 1958-59: Sharon Covey, president; Peggy Brea- zeale, vice president; Melissa O- wen, second vice president; Marty Goff, secretary; Pamela Adkins, corresponding secretary; Sherry Holland, treasurer; Susan Timm, historian.
