I PAGE 8 Thursday, January SO, 1958 The SaitaPi^f* Btation fSrazos CountYj? Texas LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Editor: The Battalion Reading the pap coming to lo cal notice is nauseous! Grown men (?) and men (?) about to assume the serious challenges of life! Tsk! Tsk! Such puerile thinking and ac tions for A&M, from Exes on down! Such bigotry will only be get further blight on A&M’s fair name in educational circles! A&M’s dying on the vine as a re- su s biased refusal to rec ognize progress. The era of coattail-riding for past accomp lishment is fading away. To ac cept the prestige of reputation as a criterion without contributing anything new is stalemate. Pro gress demands a transfusion for the dying way of old traditions. Bear in mind also, the cliche “re- foi'mers never benefit from the reform.” Give A&M a REAL boost! Co ed? Amen! All the way with co-ed ROTC! ONLY SCHOOL OF ITS KIND! There ARE wo men in military service, too. Or are you Ags so conceited you think Uncle Sam has men only in its operations? A&M has never had the tra ditions to live down as Harvard Psychologists Form Business Leader Service Two psychologists at A&M are working together in a con sulting service designed to improve the leadership of staff members of business or ganizations. Discussion groups in personnel management are being conducted on request by Dr. W. A. Varvel and M. S. Kavanaugh, Department of Education and Psychology. A typical sequence consists of 13 three-hour sessions in which Kav anaugh deals with the broad topic of human relations and Dr. Varvel with the psychology of leadership. The psychologists go directly to the firm that has contracted for the training and work with groups of 20 to 25 selected staff mem- bers. They plan the details of their progi’am after consulting with the organizational heads of the particular firm. . They believe that the training of entire staffs rather than of a single key man in an off the job situation results in improved un derstanding and ability to work together. The first discussion group con ducted by the A&M psychologists was for the Public Service Board of San Antonio during the period of June 27 through August 20, 1957. Since that time they have worked with other groups in the same company and in a large wholesale appliance firm in San Antonio. SAM HOUSTON ZEPHYR Lv. Mi. Zukh 10:03 a.m. Ar. Dallas . . 12:47 p.m. Lv. And these two old egg head factories have yielded to the inevitable skirt. (Women can he intellectual, given encourage ment.) Where would any of us be without a woman ? Even old Adam couldn’t cut it, alone! Wake up, Texas A&M! The world doesn’t exist for you! You’re slipping! And—if action isn’t forthcoming soon, the little niche you’ve carved in the Great Big World will fill with your mud —ergo—Oblivion! As for Joe Tindel—Y’all get off his back! With printer’s ink for blood, he’s first, last and al ways a newspaperman and has to print NEWS as it happens. Justice demands both sides of any situation befoi’e she can bal ance her scales! Blessings on thee, LITTLE men! Henri McNeil College Station, Texas Editor, The Battalion: “Our Spirit we give To the Aggie team For Probation & and jinx Were just routine ...” —C Composite’s Bonfire Sign Probation and jinx were routine the past two years. This year, rain, flu, mud, and collapsed bon fire were “just routine” for Ag gies who refused to be defeated. A lot of students and people have hit the panic button because the Corps is to be compulsory and we have no coach. So the going is rough; that’s never stopped us before. This is just the time for the Twelfth Man to show the nation that nothing keeps us down. It’s just routine. William K. Dunn ’58 Editor: The Battalion Since you took over your job as editor, you have been conducting what I consider as an anti-Corps campaign. Why don’t you write us an edi torial or tell us “Man to Man” why you di’opped from the Corps back in your freshman year. Juan F.
