Roddy Osborne, master magician of the Aggie Split-T attack was named in the second team back- field. Four members of Southwest Con ference teams were voted un animous choices to the mythical team. Of the four, two were the Aggies’ Crow and Krueger. King Hill of Rice and Jay Donathan, Arkansas’ brilliant center were the other majority selections. Every coach voting in the poll placed these four names on their ballots. Several other names received near-unanimous selection. Buddy Dial, pass-snatching end from Rice missed by just one vote. Clyde Ledbetter, Baylor guard led the balloting in that position with four votes. Porker fullback Gerald Nesbitt and Horned Frog halfback Jimmy Shofner also col lected four votes. Bobby Marks, wingman for the Cadets was chosen as the right end for the dream team. Larry Whitmire of Rice was placed alongside Krueger as the other tackle. There was a tie for the other guard slot, with Matt Gorges of the Owls and Tom Koenig of SMU vieing for the position. All players are seniors with the exception of Dial and Koenig, who are both juniors. Willard Dewveall of Southern Methodist and Maurice Doke of Texas were ends on the second team, with Garland Kennon of the Longhorns and Bobby Jack Oliver of Baylor at tackles. Don Wilson of Texas and Jerry Osborne, the Grim Keeper Ford of Arkansas were named guards on the second unit. Louis Del Homme of the Steers was chosen as second team center. Don Meredith and Roddy Osborne were both voted to the alternate team along with Buddy Dike of TCU and Donnie Stone, Razorback halfback. The league had more high-rank ing quarterbacks and fullbacks than in many years. A istar like Larry Hickman wound up on the Bryant Signs Pact Gets Slight Raise Paul “Bear” Bryant accepted to day a 10-year contract to return to his alama mater as head foot ball coach and athletic director at the University of Alabama. He will receive $17,500 a year. Bryant gave up the last seven years of a long-term Texas A&M contract that reportedly called for $15,000 a year. Dr. Frank A. Rose, president elect at Alabama, announced the salary terms from his hospital room at Lexington, Ky. Rose said Bryant will take over Jan. 1 and have full authority to select his staff. Mont Likes Ags Over Voht Coach Tommy Mont, whose Mary land football team lost to both A&M and Tennessee, says he thinks the Aggies will beat the Volunteers in the Gator Bowl at Jacksonville, Fla., Dec. 28. Texas A&M defeated Maryland, 21-13, last September and Tenn essee whipped the Terrapins, 16-0, in mid-season. “I’m picking the Aggies in a real tight game,” Mont told Sports Edi tor Tom Siler of the Knoxville News-Sentinte today in a long dis tance telephone interview. In comparing the two teams, Mont gave Tennessee an edge in kicking and reserve linemen. He said he thought the Aggies had better reserve backs. “Bryant hasn’t got a single long distance threat as good as Bobby Gordon, but he has more good backs than Tennessee,” Mont de clared. honorable mention list. Of the 23 men on the two-unit squad, four were Aggies; four were Owls; four were Razorbacks; and four were Longhorns. South ern Methodist landed three men on the squad. Baylor and TCU each placed two players. Texas failed to land a player on the first team. This was not con sidered too unusual, although Texas was second in the conference race.
