That makes their victory much more impressive.” A review of A&M-SMU game movies only confirmed the out standing performance of John Crow but suggested that perhaps writers had not had enough to say about the tremendous game turned in by tackle Charley Krueger. “I don’t see how a tackle can play any better than Charley did,” said Bryant after seeing the movies. His recovery of Charley Jackson’s fumble on Don Mere dith’s pitchout halted an SMU drive that had carried for 56 yards on 12 plays to the A&M 26. Tackle Ken Beck, ,end Bobby Marks and quarterback Roddy Os borne all played great games ac cording to grades posted from the movies. Beck’s brilliant defensive work, when the Mustangs were a yard away from a fourth quarter score and a tie game or the lead, was one of the great saves in the game, ranking along with Crow’s interceptions and Krueger’s fumble recovery. ‘ Meredith, hitting the line and trying to buck over for the score 1 had massive Beck tear the ball from his arms and recover at the one on fourth down. Both fullback Gordon LeBoeuf and guard Carl Luna played their best games of the season. Guard Allen Goehring also played well. The Aggies with a victory Satur day in Houston could sew up the SWC championship for a second year in a row but a Rice win would virtually put them in the same spot. Rice has lost only once in conference and by winning its next three games could become the champion. The Ponies that were “broken,” however” proved to be of the same mettle as former Mustang greats. In fact, since the days of Kyle Rote and “Flingin’ Fred” Benners, the hard-to-defend spread formation had seen very limited action. It was the first time this season the Ponies had deviated from their conventional split-T type of attack. An arrogant sophomore by the name of Don Meredith ^wrote his name in the record books as the man to watch in the years to come as he ran and threw with the skill of a senior signal-caller. Without Meredith running from the quar terback slot, the Ponies seemed to retreat and hope for the best. Last year’s game in Dallas was very similar to this one, in every point except the score. The Ponies boasted but one defeat and were in contention for conference hon ors-—up to the Aggie game. As of last Saturday night, Bill Meek’s Mustangs had lost but one contest in conference play. SMU Harriers Pass Ags In Meet A&M,’s Cross-country team bow ed to Southern Methodist Univer sity this past Saturday in a dual meet here. SMU’s strong Harrier squad de feated the Aggies 17 to 41. The Mustangs took the first three places with Freddie Dulock of A&M walking away with fourth plac§. Bruce .Brown, SMU junior, won first place with a good 9:32 time on the two-mile course. The Aggies placed as follows: First place, Freddie Dulock— 9:42. Seventh place, Dick Hickman— 9:55. Eighth place, Don Carver— 10:00. Tenth place, C. J. Hijosky— 10:34. Eleventh place, John Blake— 10:40. The Aggie’s last meet of the year will be a Conference meet next Monday at Waco. Bleachers Erected For Largest Crowd More than 1000 bleacher seats will be placed in the north end zone of Rice Stadium for the Rice- Texas A&M game Saturday. Tickets for these seats will go on sale Tuesday morning in the Rice fieldhouse, said Emmett Brun son, Rice business manager. Tackle Charley Krueger began the series by recovering Charley Jackson’s fumble on the Aggie 26-yard line. Crow ripped off seven yards in two carries. In just 14 plays, the Farmers moved into the Methodist end zone, pulling into the lead for the sec ond time in the game.
