Turkish Ministers Study Ag Methods Fifteen employees of the Minis try of Agriculture in Turkey are in Texas for the next three weeks to study agricultural extension or ganization methods, program build ing processes, the servicing of county programs, 4-H Club work and home economics extension pro grams. Cf)—“Pardon a, Ma’am,” said Sandra Jane rynie to her opponent, a sea- ned veteran of Texas women’s if. The pert little Austin miss put of her 85 pounds behind a ive right down the middle of 3 fail-way, and eventually won r • second city women’s cham- mship within two weeks. “Sandra was a perfect darling.” ys Mrs. Mildred Neill, who was oner-up in. the.. .Austin.,City men’s championship, “go po- 3 and courteous with her ‘Yes, i’ams’-^-all the time beating my L'S off.” Sandra hogged attention all the y a'fter setting the pace with 82 for medalist. Less than two weeks previous she had taken the Victoria Country Club’s women’s cham pionship with an 82. But winning is nothing new to Sandra. She qualified for the 'jTexas Women’s Open when she was 11. “She just likes to play golf and she’s good at it,” says Jim Haynie, her father, who followed the golf tournament trail in Texas for three summers. Papa Haynie has such faith in his daughter’s ^olfipg prowess that hV drives her to Fort Worth twice a month for lessons. Several years ago Haynie and Warren Cantrell, now golf coach at Texas Tech College, were hit ting a few off the practice tee in Lubbock, Tex. Cantrell noticed Sandra swinging at a couple of golf balls and asked Haynie’s per mission to give her a few pointers. Cantrell gave the little girl about 45 minutes of instruction, then told her to practice. Four hours later Sandra put down the club, her hands swollen and sore from hitting countless practice shots. She had the golf bug and was on her way. Now she is the pupil of A. G. Mitchell, Fort Woi-th pro who has coached Polly Riley, a Curtis Cupper, and numerous other wo men stars. “He’s cut her average score over 20 strokes in less than two years,” says Haynie. The past year Sandra has de voted most of her time to school work—and school golf. Professor’s Tips Help Remedy Heat Problem By TOM HENSHAW “Heat,” said the professor, ‘is a form of energy consisting of the motion of molecules in a substance with the rate of motion determining the temperature.” He stirred up a few lazy mole cules in front of his face with a long, limp sweep of a news paper held in his hand. Thei temperature rose perceptibly. We were sitting on a park bench in the shade of a tall, building. Overhead, the sun was beating down. It was beating down passersby. Several collapsed around us as we talked. “That’s all very well and good,” I said, “but I too can read the dictionary. I came to you to find out what to do about it. Tell me, professor, how can I beat the heat?” ‘First off,” said the professor, “it is necessary to recognize that Social Whirl An ice cream social has been planned by Agronomy Wives for 7 p. m. Worst thing you can do.” “That’s easily done,” I mur mured. “Once you recognize that is is hot, then slow down. Don’t exert yourself. Remember, the more you move around, the more those little old molecules move around, too.” “That’s right,” I said, making a mental note to bring that point up the next time the chief chided me when something wasn’t done on time. “Drink plenty of liquids,” the professor went on. “They lower the body temperature. They slow down the molecules.” “Yes. Yes,” I interrupted with an' eagerness unbecoming an ob jective reporter. I had read about places that sell liquids in tall, cool glasses. In fact, I had made plans to visit one shortly to PLASTIC BOAT AND ROD REPAIR KIT REPAIRS ALMOST ANYTHING . - . • Boats • Fly & Casting Rods • Swimming Pools • Iron Pipe • Steel Plates Student Co-op study the effect on my mole cules. “But go easy on the alcohol,” said the professor, throwing cold beer all over my plans. “Ice water is better to replace body moisture lost through perspira tion.” “Wear light, loose, comfortable clothing,” he went on. “Anti the less clothing the better.” “Wear light colored clothes, too,” the professor continued. “Remember, light surfaces re flect heat while dark surfaces absorb it. And eat light foods, like fruit, green vegetables, lean meat. “If you follow those simple rules, you’ll be more comfortable and you’ll enjoy the summer no matter how hot it gets,” he con cluded. A man staggered over to our bench and collapsed beside us. “Hot, isn’t it,” I sympathized. “It ain’t the heat,” he gasped, “it’s the humidity.” Zarape’s Restaurant Summer Hours Monday thru Saturday 4:30 p. m. til 10 p. m.
