By BARRY HART Despite the valiant efforts of sophomores Neil Swisher, Jim McNichol and-Ernie Turner, A&M lost a 62-59 overtime battle to the TCU Horned Frogs last night in White Coliseum. Neil Swisher, without a doubt the finest sophomore eager in the Southwest Conference, meshed a pair of free throws in the pressure-packed silence of 4,000 partisan fans with 11 seconds remaining in the regulation game to tie the score, 55-55, and send the game in a five-minute over time period. The Aggies had moved the ball in Coach Ken Loeffler’s give-and-go for 1:20 before Swisher made his drive toward the basket to the screams of “Shoot, shoot.” TCU’s Ronnie Stevenson blocked the Victor ia ace’s path and fouled Swish er. A&M took time out, then Neil dropped his gratis shots- A&M was never ahead in the overtime period, coming with in one point twice, at 55-56 and 59- GO, but Dick O’Neal and Co. were a little too much for the fired-up Aggies. Last night’s action was the second consecutive overtime game in the coliseum. A week ago the Cadets dropped Texas, 69- 67. George Mehaffey, playing with a heavily taped ankle injured in the Arkansas game, fouled out with 5:03 left in the first half, and therein lay the Aggie downfall. Mehaffey managed only five points before leaving the £ame and his scoring and rebounding would have been the difference in the second half. Swisher paced A&M’s scorers with 15, followed by Ken Hutto’s 14. Turner, who left with 5:05 of the regulation time remaining, meshed 10 and played a terrific game in Mehaffey’s absence. McNichol, the Philadelphia soph omore, saw only 15 minutes of ac tion, but his five points and five rebounds in the closing minutes kept A&M m the game.
