PAGE 6 Thursday, November 8, 1956 TJie Battalion College Station (Brazos County/, Texas DATELINE AYRSHIRE By Ken George Did you ever wonder just how much time the A&M Band spends practicing 1 for the half-time drill ? By Saturday, at game time, these 240 men will have spent 1,220 man hours entirely in pre paration for their part of the half time—seven minutes. Why in the name of good sense should these men give this time and talent when their whole per formance is over-shadowed by the actions of Reveille ? The dog has a very important part at football games but on the other hand, so does SMU's pony. But they don’t let it run wild while their 97-piece band does its little bit. Which would you rather have represent A&M College at half time, the band or the misdemeanors of Reveille ? It does the old heart good to see such men as Jack Pardee, John Crow, Dennis Goehring, Lloyd Hale and just about all the rest singing the Spirit before the game starts Many people say “So what, other teams sing their school songs too!” We invite you to check and see just how many other schools’ foot ball players even know the school song much less sing it at the ballgame. Eddie Thorp’s comment on the ball game Saturday night, “Pass those dates back, army”. Eddie was not escorted to the game. As long as we are on this foot ball kick let’s just comment on some of the big city paper’s ac counts of the Aggie team. Bill Rives, Dallas. Morning News, has yet to say anything real good about A&M’s football powerhouse. The write-up for the TCU game gave us the impression that “poor J old TCU, those lucky Aggies did it again”. Could it be that Bill is suffering from lack of ALL- American-itus ?” He’ll usually come up with some thing, even Charlie Arnold. Arnold has had some good nights and Rives will really get on the All- American wagon for him but the very next week Arnold doesn’t come through and Rives’ column is full of how the 1923 Mexican Road Race came out. Homer Norton is another skep tic. “I can’t help but think the best team lost” seems to be his favorite saying after each Aggie ball game. We’re beginning to think sports writers just don’t like to see Old Army coming back. Credit where credit is due. Dick Benard—is doing a great job as a yell leader. Patient Sticks Neck Out RICHMOND, Va. <A>)_A navy- sponsored medical research team is going to Africa to take the blood pressure of a giraffe or two. It hopes to find out why pressure strong enough to force blood up a giraffe’s neck to its head doesn’t at least bring on the staggers when the giraffe lowers its head.
