Most of their touch downs have been either long runs or long passes.” Fresh from their convincing 27- 0 victory over Arkansas, Coach Paul (Bear) Bryant’s Aggies work ed on trying to recognize the SMU offense with a minimum of con tact work. “SMU both runs and passes very well,” commented Bryant on his Saturday opponent. “They’ve play ed some real good teams. We’re afraid of a bunch of ’em, espec ially that (Charlie) Arnold, (Char- JIMMY WRIGHT — who threw a beautiful scoring pass, his fourth, to Bebes Stallings against Arkansas. ley) Jackson, (Ron) Slaughter and (Willard) Dewveall.” Arnold is the Southwest Con ference’s second leading passer and total offense producer. Arn old has passed 100 . times, com pleted 48 for 710 yards and eight touchdowns. Jackson holds down second place in the league’s ground-gaining de partment with 441 yards gained on 67 trips for an average gain of 6.6 yards. Arkansas’ George Nes bitt has 480 yards, but has played in seven games, one more than Jackson. Slaughter is seventh among the conference’s pass catchers with 164 yards and one score on nine completions. Mustang end Tommy Gentry is fourth in this category with 170 yards on 15 snares and two touchdowns. The Ponies of Dallas are unde feated in conference play, having scored one-point victories over Rice (14-13) and Texas (20-19). SMU held a staggering 20-0 lead over the Longhornsi last Saturday in Austin, but couldn’t do any thing right in the second portion, as the Steers went wild, almost winning in the final seconds. Slimes Seek Third Victory Over Fish Here Tomorrow By JOE BOYD and Del Mar Junior College indi- two long touchdown runs against The Battalion College Station (Brazos County), Texas Wednesday, November 7, 1956 PAGE 3 McBride Leads Sqd. 8 Win Hugh McBride scored 18 big points and teammate Pete Terry got 12: to lead Squadron 8 to a 37 to 32 victory over Squadron 21. Bob Jewell with six was second to Carroll on the Air Force team. In the only other game played in Class A intramurals Jerry Stewart pumped in 12 points to become high-scorer and lead Sqdn. 7 to a 36-17 victory over Sqdn. 20. NEW! One of A&M’s brightest stars, Gordon LeBeouf of Port Neches, will collide with an old teammate from his fabulous high school days. Bobby LaBorde.who led the Owlets in rushing- against powerful Del Mar is billed as an “all-purpose back” for the hard-hitting Slime eleven and, like LeBeouf, helped pave the way for his high school’s 1955 state crown. Pacemakers of the Rice Frosh attack currently are quarterback Larry Dueitt of Corpus Christ!, who passed once and ran once for touchdowns against Del Mar, dup licating his feat against Texas. Gordon Speer, a Barbers Hill speed merchant, caught a Dueitt TD pass in the Del Mar encounter and had SMU. The big difference in the two teams quite likely may hing’e upon the Milstead question. If the hefty Tyler quarterback can play Thurs day night, popular thought will swing harder toward the Fish than otherwise. CATERING for SPECIAL OCCASIONS Leave the Details to me.
