PAGE 8 Police Post Blown Up By Israeli Forces JERUSALEM, — An Israeli force struck into Jordan yesterday, blew up a frotified police post, and fought a furious two-hour bat tle with Jordanian police and na tional guardsmen. Jordan military sources said 20 Jordanians were killed. They said the attack was launched by about 1,000 men in 34 trucks and jeeps and 3 armored cars. Maj. Gen. E. L. M. Burns, chief of the U. N. truc,e observers, ap pealed last night to both sides to end “this tragic series of events.” Burns’ communique added today’s attack by Israelis appeared to be “an act of retaliation such as has been repeatedly condemned by the Security Council.” A spokesman at U. N. truce headquarters said 10 bodies had been taken from the ruins of the police post, a four-room stone building topped by two towers. The post was built by the British in the days of their Palestine mandate. Gas Tax Rebate To Be Investigated WASHINGTON—OS’)—The House Agriculture Committee said yes- terday it will investigate in Texas next week reports that some oil campanies raised gasoline prices to farmers after Congress ordered a tax rebate on gasoline used on farms. Rep. Poage, vice chairman of the committee, said it will hold a heaiang in Waco, Tuesday. Congress this year enacted a law providing for a refund of the fed eral excise tax on gasoline used to run tractors and to carry on farm operations off the highways. Poage said four major oil com panies have since raised their tank tvagon prices for gasoline for farm 8se, while two other companies maintained existing prices. 18 Texas Counties Disaster Areas WASHINGTON—CP) — The Ag riculture Department yestei’day de signated 18 additional counties in Texas as drought disaster areas in which eligible stockmen may participate in the government’s emergency feed program. The counties are Anderson, Aus tin, Briscoe, Burleson, Calhoun, Carson, Cherokee, Dawson, Don ley, Fort Bend, Hall, Hidalgo, Houston, Lynn, Parmer, Rusk, Wal ler, Wharton. The department also announced that in the newly designated Tex as counties farmers may graze land they have retired from pro duction under the acreage reserve part of the new Soil Bank program. Duval Trial Goes to Jury ANSON, Tex., <^P) — Trial of former Dist. Atty. Raeburn Norris and three other defendants charged with attempting to misapply $5,000 in Duval County funds went to the jury yesterday. The jury continued to deliberate in late evening. The case was transferred to Judge Owen Thomas’ court from Duval County on a change of venue. The defendants called no witnesses before Judge Owens read his charge to the jury. The charge involves a $5,000 check drawn on a county road and bridge fund. The state alleges the check was used to pay a $5,000 note Norris had made out to the San Diego State Bank. Garland Athlete Arrives at OU NORMAN, Okla., CP> — Bobby Boyd of Garland, the high school football star and center of a hassle over where he should attend school, arrived on the Oklahoma campus yestei’day. He said he hoped the debate was over. Boyd was the subject of a has sle after Southern Methodist of ficials claimed Oklahoma wooed him away after he signed a letter of intent to attend SMU. “Other boys have changed their minds and didn’t have to go through the trouble I did,” Boyd said. “I hope it’s all over so I can concentrate on football.” Thursday, September 13, 1956 The Battalion ....
