Pag-e 6 THE BATTALION Thursday, November 10, 1955 New Loan Fund Fays Tribute To George Long As a tribute to a man who, for over 40 years helped the students at A&M with their financial and other problems, the relatives and friends of George A. Long started a Student Loan Fund in his memory. The George A. Long Memorial Fund was turned over to Col. R. F. Sauer, of the Student loan office, in October and at that time was around $400. “The activating fome behind the fund was Mrs. Annie Long Mitchell, a sister of Long. She was very determined to start the fund on or before her brothers’ birthday, Oct. 28,” said Oscar S. Long, nephew of Long. The names of donors that started the fund are Mrs. Josephine W. Long, mother of George Long; three sisters, Mrs. Annie Long Mitchell, Mrs. Lena Long Turner and Mrs. Bertie Long Norton; three nephews, Oscar S. Long ’38, Lt. Ray W. Long, USAF, ’51 and John W. Long. In a letter from Oscar Long The Battalion learned that he intends to contact the members of the class of 1917, of which George A. Long was a member and class agent, and inform them of the fund. After his graduation in 1917 Long was an assistant county agent until he started work for the college in 1926 with the busi ness office. He worked in that capacity until 1947 when he was put in charge of Student Loans and Labor. He served in that ca pacity until his death last summer in Houston. Keith (Continued from Page 3) scoring catch of Wright’s pass opened the gate for the Aggies against SMU last Saturday. “Bobby Drake has impi-oved a lot,” said Coach Bryant, “He’s a fine little ol’ boy and gives it all he’s got.” KEITH ALMOST went to Baylor and even visited their campus as a Breckenridge schoolboy, but, luck ily, changed his mind and wound up at A&M. Keith, a converted halfback who was good enough to make Lineman of the Week after his third game on the flank, looks like a good bet to become another of A&M’s great wingmen. Fish (Continued from Page 3) so far this season—a spectacular 100-yard kickoff return for a touch down against the Shorthorns.
