morrow night in the form of Bay

many as the “greatest first-year
team in conference history.”
Game time is 7:00 p.m. on Kyle
Field.
“They’re the greatest array of
freshmen football talent ever as
sembled at a college, and even
Coach George Sauer, admits it,”
said Coach Paul Bryant.
Picking his lineup of the top ten
teams in the nation, Bryant puts
the Baylor Cubs in the No. 10 posi

and Texas Christian varsity.
In what may be the game of the
year in freshman play, the Fish

ing 38-14 loss at the hands of the
Cubs in ’54. It was the Fish
team’s only loss last year.
Hailed in pre-season picks as
the two best first-year teams in
the conference, both showed tre
mendous power and depth in their
opening games. A&M used three
teams to smash the TCU Wogs,
27-6, while Baylor slaughtered the
Texas Shorthorns for the third
straight year, 48-7.
Paced by three outstanding
quarterbacks, Luther Hall, Jackie
Hathorn and Hal Sandefur, the Ag
gies’ first three teams ran the
split-T attack with precision and
authority.
“Hall was the real standout,”
said Dave Campbell, sports edi
tor of the Waco Tribune-Herald.
“Both Hall and Hathorn ran the
split-T option play with skill and
finesse, better than any quarter
back Baylor had on display
against Texas.”
Hall, playing at both quarter
back and halfback, passed for 42
yards and a touchdown with three
out of four completions and picked
up another score on his 27 yards
rushing.
