Picking his lineup of the top ten teams in the nation, Bryant puts the Baylor Cubs in the No. 10 posi tion, just behind the UCLA, Navy and Texas Christian varsity. It was the Fish team’s only loss last year. Hailed in pre-season picks as the two best first-year teams in the conference, both showed tre mendous power and depth in their opening games. A&M used three teams to smash the TCU Wogs, 27-6, while Baylor slaughtered the Texas Shorthorns for the third straight year, 48-7. Paced by three outstanding quarterbacks, Luther Hall, Jackie Hathorn and Hal Sandefur, the Ag gies’ first three teams ran the split-T attack with precision and authority. “Hall was the real standout,” said Dave Campbell, sports edi tor of the Waco Tribune-Herald. “Both Hall and Hathorn ran the split-T option play with skill and finesse, better than any quarter back Baylor had on display against Texas.” Hall, playing at both quarter back and halfback, passed for 42 yards and a touchdown with three out of four completions and picked up another score on his 27 yards rushing.
