Page 4 the battalion Wednesday, February 23, 1955 Mrs. Texas A&M Receives 30 Gifts Mrs. Suzanne Petty ji\, winner of the Mrs. Texas A&M contest, was presented with 30 gifts at the Maroon and White Ball Saturday night. The i-emainder of the list of gifts awarded by College Station and Bryan merchants which began in Tuesday’s Battalion follows: A $5 merchandise certificate, by the Shopping Center; $1 cash, by Zubik’s Tailors; a $5 merchandise certificate, by Weingaiten’s Super Market; a shampoo and wave set, to be given by the Lady Fair Beau ty Solon; and ten gallons of gas, by the Hudson Oil company. The Memorial Student Center will furnish a dinner for two in the main dining loom, five lines of bowling, a season ticket to Cafe Rue Pinalle and folk dance classes. Mrs. Texas A&M will also re ceive a season ticket to the Film society, a ticket to the Intercol legiate Talent show, a modern ta ble center piece and her husband will receive a shampoo and a hair cut in the MSC barber shop. HI, SCHOOL By BETSY BURCHARD A&M Consolidate High School Correspondent The A&M Consolidated high school chorus will go gypsy in its spring production scheduled for March 31 and April 1. Casting for “The Gypsy Troubadour” by Don Wilson and Effa Preston was com pleted last week and regular re- hersals begun. The male leads were filled by Henry Phillips, Donny Turner, George Litton, Travis Englebrecht, Clifton Bates, and J. B. Carroll. Marcia Smith, Ann Hite, Gwynn Scruggs, Jean Ann Smith, Jean When baked potatoes are on the dinner menu, put a few extra ones in the oven. Peeled, diced and heated in a cheese sauce, they will make a quick and hearty dish the next day. Serve with hamburgers or sliced ham, a yellow or gr-een cooked vegetable and a salad. Miss Young Picked Band Wives Head Mi s. Barbara Young was elec ted as the new president of the Band Wives club at the last meet ing. Other officers are Mrs. Jeanne Evans, vice-president; Mrs. Hazel Rambo, secretary; Mrs. Faye All- red, treasurer; Mrs. Lena Duph- rate, program chairman; and Mrs. Marilyn Jemigan, reporter. Mrs. Carol Gregg became a new member of the club at the last meeting. March 1, will be the date of the next meeting to be held in the YM CA. Puddy, Clarie Rogers, and Sylvia Williams will have the female leads. The show is a true operetta as the dialogue and singing are equally divided. For the past two years the group has presented folk operas; “Down in the Valley,” in 1953, and “The Lowland Sea,” in 1954. —o— Band members will select their sweetheart this week. She will be presented at the band dance on February 26 between 8-12 p.m. The semi-formal dance will be held in the high school activity room. Nominees are Helen Holmes, Di anne Shrivanek, Betty Jean Wil liams and Barbara Arlt. N. L. McCullough, acting post master of the Colleg'e Station post office, gave an informal talk to the high school civics class last week. WANTED Girl Scout Troop 5 Entertain Mothers Girl Scout troop 5, eighth grade girls of the A&M Consolidated school, met last week in the St. Thomas Parish hall to honor their mothers with a Valentine’s party. The party was planned and pre pared by the scout troop who also made the refreshments. After the party a brief talk was given by Mrs. W. M. Heritage. Mrs. Heri tage discussed the possibility of plans for the troop to take a trip to Monterry, Mexico. Mothers present at the party were Mesdames D. A. Anderson, Peter Dehlinger, W. M. Dowell, C. K. Esten, James Freeman, Phillip Goode, Frank Gould, Hubert Hearne, John R. Jackson, E. C. Klipple, Charles La Motte, David Morgan, W. A. Darvel and W. E. Wright. L. Potts have announced the birth of a son, Rob ert Louis Potts jr. Robert was eight pounds and four ounces at birth and was born at 11:10 p.m. Feb. 17, in St. Jose ph’s hospital. The Potts are from Vicksburg - , Miss., and are now living- at 802 Faiiview. He is a senior floricul ture major. Frank Roach Announces Birth Mr. and Mrs. Frank M. Roach have announced the birth of a daughter, Sara Jayne Roach. Sara Jayne was born in the Bry an hospital Feb. 15, at 7:16 p.m. and weighed 6 and a half pounds at birth. Roach is a freshman veterinary medicine major. The Roach family lives in College View in A-9-A. Social Whirl Wednesday The Senior Veterinary Wives club will meet at 8 p.m. in the cab inet room of the YMCA. Hostesses for the meeting will be Mrs. Jo Hoffman, Mrs. Beverly Carlos and Mrs. Charles Cocanougher. The program will be a business meeting fo.llowed by Bingo. Thursday The Aggie Wives Bridge club will meet in room 2B of the Me morial Student Center at 7:30 p. m. CHS Will Dedicate Three New Buildings The dedication of three new buildings will highlight A&M Con solidated high school’s observance of Texas Public School week, March 7-13. A new auditorium and two new classroom buildings will be dedi cated, and a full program will com plete the week. March 7 and 8 will be devoted to grades pne through four. Parents from the first two grades will at tend a parent-teachers discussion group on the first night, followed the next evening by parents of the second two grades. A panel of in structors, with Mrs. Rowena Cres- well, principal, as moderator, will answer questions. Friday evening, March 11, will feature a community supper to which everyone in the area is in vited. The supper will be held in the gymnasium and, weather per mitting, on Pati-anella slab. There will be a nominal charge for food. Supervising the supper’s organiza tion is Mrs. Raymond Rieser. At 7:30 p.m. Friday the junior and senior high schools will have 10-minute class meetings to which parents are invited. At 8:30, thei’e will be an assembly in the new high school auditorium. Entertainment and speakers will be on the assem bly program. While the junior and senior high schools are having their class meet ings, the elementary school will hold an open house. Student work .will be exhibited in the rooms.
