f T Pas:** 4 ^ THE BATTALION Tuesday, January 18, 1955 A&M Plays Baylor With Third at Stake Out to jump back into the middle of the Southwest con ference race against Baylor tonight in Waco following the second worst defeat in its cage history, A&M's basketball team takes the court for the fourth time in 11 days. The Cadets put up a 3-10 season record and a 1-2 con ference mark against BU’s 6-7 season and 2-2 league records. An A&M win would boost the Ca dets into a third place tie with Ar kansas if Rice loses to TCU tonight in Houston as expected. Radio station KORA will broad cast the game, starting at 8 p.m., ^ith Mike Mistovich doing the play-by-play. In a G p.m. opener, the Aggie Fish, losers in both their previous road games, meet the Baylor Cubs. The Freshmen have a 4-2 season record following their 49-66 loss to the Houston frosh Saturday night. Tonight coach John Floyd is due to start John Fortenberry and Rog er Harvey at guard, George Me- haffey and Bill Brophy at forward and Don Bilbrey on the post. Bay lor, which lost to Arkansas 73-63 in Fayetteville Saturday, will open with A1 White and Jerry Jordan at guard, Murray Bailey and Jerry Mallett at forward, and 6-8 Don Dickson at center. John DeWitt’s Fish will have Bryan Sutherlin and Willard Hutto at guard, Fritzie Connally and Gary Ewert at forward, and Ted Dock ery at center. Starting gruard J. C. Smith has an injured knee. The Fish defeat preceded a lop sided 66-107 varsity trouncing by the University of Houston Satur day. It was the most points ever scored by an Aggie opponent and the second most lopsided defeat in varsity history. In other games, C armor blanked D field artillery, 20-0; A anti-air craft artillery downed A field ar- tilleiy, 20-12; A ordnance won over 1st regimental staff by forfeit and A infantry beat A signal corps by forfeit. Hoover Martin bucketed 18 points to lead A field ai-tillery to a 24-19 win over D infantry in fresh men basketball. Bob Gleason scored 12 points to spark squadron 17 to a 35-8 victory over squadron 1; George DePee rang up 10 points to give A engi neers a 21-18 victory over squad ron 6; Joe Cantrell sank 8 points to pace' squadron 7 to a 23-12 win over A quartermaster corps; and Rollins Bilby managed 8 points to lead squadron 14 to a 27-11 win over A ordnance. Squadron 9 won over squadron 2 in upperclassmen horseshoes; squadron 18 won over B armor, 3-0. SPLASH—A&M diver George Parr is on his way to the water in the diving event of Saturday’s swimming meet with Northwestern Louisiana State. Parr, a junior, has left the board on a one-half twisting, one-half gainer. Bill Wise of NWLS won the diving with 232.6 points.
