DYE RS - FUR STO RAOEHATT ER S iTtn-oa^xCQ-n. telling “the union’s place in mid- 20th century education.” The bulletin calls the article “one of the most noteworthy state ments about the unioh idea made by a student in recent times.” The article was first given as a talk to the Texas-Oklahoma reg ional conference last December. Samuels was chairman of that con ference. In the article, Samuels says that the first basic purpose of a student union, like the MSC, is to offer a “living laboratory on the campus or instilling concepts of citizen ship and service into the student body.” He stated that the second pur pose is to give students the physi cal facilities and organized pro gram within which they “may cul tivate a sophisticated manner of spending leisure bourse.” Samuels pointed out the main idea should be that “all your pro grams and committee work will be put into the perspective of service to fellow students and human be ings.” William the Conqueror, king of England, died in Rouen, capital of Normandy in 1087. Aggie Fencers To Duel John Tarleton A&M’s fencing team, last year’s Southwest conference titlists, goes after its fifth straight win, over John Tarleton here Friday. It will be the first match of the year for the Cadets. Art Garner, a senior from Amarillo, is this year’s captain. “The boys work hard all the time,” said Lt. Col. Frank S. Va- den, fencing coach, “and thy’re really interested in fencing. That’s why they won last year, and why they’re contenders again this year.” The team has had two invita- tiqns to meets so far this year. One to Chihuahua, Mexico, last month was not accepted because the team had not had a chance to work out. An invitation to the University of Arizona meet at Tucson during the Thanksgiving holidays is being considered. The regular conference season wpn’t start until the spring. Matches scheduled so far include the University of Houston, Rice, Texas, Texas Tech and the Buc caneer Fencing club of Galveston. Walker is from Bryant’s home county in Arkan sas and was bora in Rison, about 15 or 20 miles from Bryant’s home town of Fordyce. A&M is now seventh in the na tion in pass defense after being first last week. The Aggies have given up 27 completions of 60 passes for 280 yards, an average of 46.7 yards per game. So far, about 15,000 tickets have been sold for Saturday’s game. There still are plenty of good seats left, said Barlow (Bones) Irvin, administrative assistant. Army Instructors To Have Program An army instruction team will present a program on guided miss ies for all members of armed ser vice components here. The lecture will be at 8 p.m. Oct. 29, in the biological sciences lec ture room. Invited are all army, air force, naval, and marine reservists, na tional guardsmen, and regular army and air force officers and enlisted men.
